I've looked into PC'ing the sub but the trade-off doesn't engender (is that the right word?) itself to me, I don't like the idea of sterilizing the sub and killing off the beneficials. I may be misunderstanding what you're are doing so correct me if so. With my method I'm getting colonization within 24hrs and 4 days later the surface is totally covered with mycelia.

Last year I struggled to get anything from the tubs besides trich. Two things really turned the tide, cleaning the manure of sticks and stones and other crapola and dialing back the spawn to sub ratio. I had been doing 1:3 but now settled on 1:2. There is an unknown aspect to this, I had a conversation with another member last fall, he said he'd stopped trying to grow during the summer when the AC is running. His thinking is that the AC stirs up contaminates that the heating cycle doesn't. He got positive results and so have I. There is another change I made to the grow room, I put in a high efficiency air cleaner and was running it for a month before starting the latest grows.

Then there are two other changes I've made with the grain colonization, one grow was done with A2G transfer and the other was done with LC2G. I'm so impressed with the speed of LC that I've made LC from at least 6 varieties of shrooms starting with agar sampling of each looking for good rhyzomorphic growth before inoculating the solution.

I just use the PC as a big pot, NO sterilizing happening.  It is definitely harder to grow in the Summer, hardest season by far.  You can be successful but expect loss and do smaller projects.

Ahhh, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying your method. Basically its a bit different double boiler tek from what I'm doing but mine isn't standard either. I like that I can set the temp on the roaster and let it do its thing while I do mine.

My method is very simple, but I'm not trying to sell you on what I do.  Whatever works for You... to get to the finish line is All that matters fungus friend.

No problem, I get what you're saying, to each his/her own.

The finish line on both grows came to an end, the Amazon about a week ago and I pulled the plug on the Argentina a couple days ago. I got a total wet harvest of 333 g from the Amazon and 792 from the other.

I'm debating starting a new grow or two before summer sets in, I've got 6 jars of colonized grain and a  but a couple issues come to mind one being I'm growing for myself and the other being I'm having problems with one of my ankles that refuses to heal, mobility has become an issue. I've got plenty from this harvest to last quite a while but I do enjoy the challenge of growing them. It's too bad there aren't therapy clinics in the area that I could grow for, I think you know what kind of therapy I'm thinking of... but you'd probably have to be a licensed grower yada, yada, yada, BS.

it definitely sounds like you have plenty but growing them in general is an addiction in itself.  If that's mostly personal (or All), you are set for a long time.  I don't push my practices on anyone, WE do what WE do!

And that's the dilemma...

Yep. Second that.
I've been so busy I got no time to enjoy...or even take care of a grow properly but I still seem to want to keep one going.
Might need to try some more set n forget style and see if that works better with the busy times.

Hopen the ankle situation gets better. Mines an angry shoulder and I know it gets old when it persists.

To add to the dilemma I've 8 pints of LC living in the fridge that's ready to go. My ambitions exceed my needs and I'm not inclined to be a supplier to the locals either, way too many risks for an old fart like me.

You could always just destroy the fruits if you end up with too many.  Or scale down your grows, like use half pints instead of quarts of grain.  Or try your hand at edibles/medicinals/exotics.  Sorry bout your ankle!  Foot injuries are the worst.

I really hope you're being factious with that advice otherwise I, and a lot of others, would think you've gone off the deep end... What would be nice is if I could find someone locally to pass it onto who has a similar attitude towards shrooms and knows the tek.

I've had to dump some. (A lot) Because like you said "too big a risk for an old fart like me"

I felt it was an awful shame.
But afterwards I still had more than I need.
(Which isn't very much)

Unfortunately, I'm serious.  If we ever get to the point where they can be sold on the open market in my lifetime, I'll have a nice little side-hustle.  Hell, I'd donate them to the Salvation Army if I could.  But, these days I just don't know more than a few people I can share with safely and the risk outweighs the benefits of doing anything else.  For now, the best thing for me is to enjoy the challenge of the process itself by continuing to try new things.

I like to think I've contributed to a lot more trips by helping out here on the site than I would by passing out fruits.

I've sent old fruits to the compost pile quite a few times over the years (Back to the Earth), it's fairly easy to get too many, especially when you like to play in the sandbox WAY too often.

.I have like 3 cu yds of new black soil from the compost heap for the gardens this year.....I rot all kinds of stuff there......mushrooms are put there to help break down the materials.....

The soil looks very rich and will hopefully perk up the beds this coming season.....worms are everywhere.......yummy!

Mushroom growing is addicting as hell and can get quite out of hand.....if one can....compost heaps are beautiful things...

I've helped a lot of people on the shrooms reddit site getting thank yous all the time. But even that is getting old now, lots of noobs keep posting the same questions over and over so you know they aren't doing the basic research first.. I spent several months reading before asking questions meant to clarify murky areas of shroom cultivation then I dove into the growing aspect. Still it wasn't cut and dry as I'm certain everyone here can testify to.

With that in mind I want to thank everyone who's helped me in this great hobby. It's one more skill set I've added to my life's experience, for the most part all self taught.

I can identify with that! It's such an interesting sandbox though... and the best thing is it cured my depression. Something that 50 years of popping anti-depressants couldn't do. What more could I ask for.

May the Psilly be with You!

I know I said I was done with shroom growing for a while but after going round and round in my head I finally gave in, I already miss tending my garden. So I'm gonna start another two grows using LC for both. Tidal Wave and Puerto Rican. The grain is soaking, the jars are prepped and unless something unexpected comes up ... While these are in the works I want to start making LC from Mazatapec print, JMF, Mckennaii and Ban Su Phang Ka  syringes. I've got a full plate tomorrow. Or is it today...

Once summer comes around it will be best to suspend operations as I've been having repeated trich contams every time so grow while I can!

It took longer than I thought it should considering I used LC but the TW and PR jars are finally showing some white fuzzies. I started the petries a day later than the jars and the Maz print to agar is showing some activity and of the three spore syringes only one has some activity but it also has contams to deal with. With that one I hope the mycelia gets a good enough start to salvage something from it. Tomorrow morning should give a clearer picture of whats happening with everything.
