It seemed that overnight was enough to see primordia on the PR. Now I get to see how long it takes both to pin and if it'll be a forest. When I put them to FC I covered both with bubble wrap and so far they've responded very nicely with the exception of removing it to shake off excess condensation and blotting big water drops from the sub surface.

Last night before I put myself to bed as part of my ritual I checked on the tubs and I've got pins, on both no less! Just right about on time. Now the fun part begins.

As things are developing with the tubs it turns out the PR is getting the best pin production. I was hoping the TW would be the champ but anything I get from it is a win. I can always hope for a better second flush from the TW. It looks like I might get my long overdue canopy with the PR and the dehumidifier will see some heavy usage, I might need to pull out the Mcguyverd dehumidifier I put together early last year, or was it the year before... It's been close to two months since the last trip, me thinks it's time for another and the TW will be up front.

 

If I get the kind of harvest I hope to see from the PR I'll probably devote a portion to the Honey Tek.

I apologize for the lighting, using the flash tends to make the images harsh. The sub surface is a nice healthy white.

 

So far the PR is exceeding all expectations, I'm a little, emphasis on little, disappointed with the TW but again anything is a win. Maybe the second flush will make up for the first flush but it's early in the game.

I'm hoping its the difference in genetics between the two varieties that I'm seeing in the growth rate. I'm attending to them the same way so maybe I need to change my method for the TW? I'm misting the tub sides and lid 3x a day along with giving them a quick fan each time. The PR seems to love it but the TW is slow on the uptake. All the agar work and LC looks to be paying off. BTW I didn't test the LC before inoculating the grain for either variety, maybe I got lucky or the shroom gods are with me this time!

It would be nice to get a forest canopy for a change but harvesting would be a bitch...

The original syringe is about a year and a half old so I don't think it would qualify as original. I am happy with it's production nonetheless.

I got an early morning harvest from the PR, nothing like the size of the Amazons but also not puny like the TC. That I can live with.

 

 

I wouldn't be surprised if I get another harvest later today. The edges of some of the shrooms are showing signs of low moisture but no large cracks either so I'll continue with the fine misting. It could just be the low humidity in the house contributing to the problem.

 

Some of you may know I've got another hobby, well my main hobby, that involves woodworking and another that involves DMT. So I decided it was time to make a container for the latter.

 

 

The lid is a piece of highly figured walnut I picked up eons ago along with several other pieces, the front and back are quarter sawn myrtle and the end caps are figured chenchem.

 

Update: I did another harvest about at 3 my time and the running total so far is 225.9g.

 

 

The PR is getting a real good lip lock on the sub, the clusters don't want to let go of the sub without tearing out chunks. Even twisting doesn't do much to mitigate it. The good part is it's relatively easy to clean the stem.

The PR finished the first flush with 409g. There are some small pins that didn't grow to full maturity so I'm letting them continue. I would have likely had a canopy if I had let them all open but I'm not interested in having the shrooms spore all over the sub. The last time I let that happen I had a horrible time getting anything from the sub again, that was the PB grow.

 

The TW shrooms are displaying a curious knob on top of most of the shrooms:

So far today I've harvested 182g from that tub. BTW, both tubs are 32 quarts

Thanks guys for the praise! Much appreciated. Normally I wouldn't use so many figured woods in a larger project but when it comes to small boxes they deserve a little more bling to set them off.

Yesterday I took a day off and went to Amish country in Ohio to pick up on some more fancy wood. When I got back more TW shrooms were ready for picking. Fortunately they didn't spore all over the sub.

I put all the PR shrooms in the dehydrator, the final tally for the first flush is 43g dry. As for the TW so far I've got 275 g ready for the dryer.

I went through the PR and TW tubs "weeding" out the aborts. The PR is showing signs of a good second flush in the making but not so much with the TW, might that be a sign of low moisture in the sub? The TW tub is noticeably lighter than the PR tub. Both were done pretty much identical to each other when it came to the recipe amounts. Again, much thanks for any kind of opinions/suggestions you can offer.

The tubs finished the second flushes, not quite as good as the first flush for some reason. The TW had a really disappointing second flush with only 5 shrooms, the PR managed to put out about 340g. The TW got a dunk yesterday and the PR followed suite today. The TW is recovering nicely and the PR isn't far behind. I've got enough PR for two batches of Honey Tek so time to get everything together and jump into it.

I finished off another flush of TW this morning, not impressive but respectable, and they are in the dehydrator. I'm not sure what's up with the PR, it's slowed down considerably after the second flush. Dunking didn't seem to help and neither did putting the tub outside over night for a cold shock. I turned off the lights and put BW on both tubs giving them a rest to see if that will help.

 

I hope to have an update on the box within the next few days, I'm adding some inlay to the underside of it. I think you'll like it...
