I jumped into the Honey TEK prep today. The worst part was the constant stirring. The next hardest was trying to filter the shroom detritus from the liquid, I didn't powder them but it sure acted like I did. I finally got fed up and moved onto the evap phase. It'll probably suffer a loss in potency but at this point I'm not going to worry. Next up is of course the testing it but I'm not up for it just yet.

I did add the spices during the initial simmer, oh boy, did it smell good! I just hope all the heating didn't destroy them.

I did manage to avoid licking the spoon even though it meant loosing some tasty honey... nevertheless the temptation was there.

It looks like the PR is putting on a last gasp third flush, what it lacks in numbers it sure is making up in size. The way it started off I wasn't expecting this turn out. Except for a few of them most are far outdoing the previous flush sizes. I've got 32 qt tubs and the tallest is almost touching the lid at close to 7.5" tall. I can't say for sure how big in diameter the cap will be but I wouldn't be surprised to see 4". I'm gonna print that sucker! I've had big one's before from other flushes but this definitely outdoes them all. And there are two others not far behind...

I've got a bowl to put over the cap but it may be too small...

I like the lighting strips setup.

It's just a chunk of 1" blue insulation board wedged between the shelf ribs with adhesive backed led strips plugged into a wall wart which in turn is plugged into a timer. The only bad thing is the adhesive they use isn't very good so I had to add double sided foam tape.

That cap is taking it's good old time opening up, I'll probably end up taking the print before going to bed and that's about 2 in the morning.

Update: This morning the cap was maybe 3/4" from the lid, 20 minutes ago it was about 1/8" away from it. I ended up lifting the lid up a little more.

It's a good thing I added in the spacers, it would have head butted the lid otherwise. Two more shrooms show potential of coming close to this monster. And NO, I'm not gonna boof this thing!

I tried to leave his balls behind on the sub but he wouldn't have it so he lost his head instead...

I didn't want to wait till the wee hours of the morning to take a print when it was fully open. As it is it'll probably get stuck in the glass cover. Speaking of cover I usually lift it with 3 steel washers to give it a little air, I came up with the bright idea of putting an L bend in the washers (quick work with a hammer and vice) then attaching them with hot melt glue to the cover, short leg under the edge of the cover. When moving from one location to another it had a tendency of wanting to skid off them, problem fixed.

Come morning I'll see what the other two have been up to. This one print is probably the equivalent of 4 prints from vendors.

<p>I didn't have any agar available for a clone so I had to make up a new batch. In the meantime I took a monster print and a few spore swabs for good measure. This is the third flush from the PR. It seemed a shame breaking them down for the dehydrator :-(. I did retain the stem for the clone, I'll get it after the agar has a chance to cool down.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The sum total for this grow is a respectable 851 g wet.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>It took a while to get back to this post, I was busy with life and lost track of time. Anyway the agar got cooled enough to do a couple clones of the monster and some A2A transfers I've been putting off. Those are destined for LC. Speaking of putting off I checked the status of the colonized pint rye jars in the fridge and they're doing fine. Three of them are 4 months old and one is 6 months, all are doing great. I have to resist the urge to get them out and...</p>

I've called an end to this tandem grow and declaring it a success. Both sub cakes have been put to pasture in the yard. Considering my battles with trich last summer I'm putting everything on hold until sometime this fall, maybe October or so. I just hope I don't forget the lessons learned since last fall so with that in mind I'll need to put them on paper. One final lesson that involves the PR is for the last flush I turned the heat up on the mat to 79, it may be that change is what stimulated the monsters in the third flush. The tents that I was using last summer have been put into storage, probably permanently, I lost too many grows in them to trich.

I've got all summer to make up my mind about which ones will be next from my stash of colonized grain or LC. My nephew is showing interest in getting another grow going so I might turn him on to some of the colonized grain...

One last bit of news is the clone tissue sample I took from the PR monster is showing promise as well as the other agar work I mentioned, all are looking good. The next step for the older agar work is making LC jars from them, that is as long as they show no contams. My plan is to inject some sterile water into the jars, swish it around then withdraw and inject it into prepared LC jars of which I have several in waiting. None of them show any signs of contams.

In the meantime, enjoy the fruits of your labor. Good summer stockpile to enjoy while you scheme about next year's grows. Still cold where I'm at but I need to draw a line and stop prepping jars soon as well. A few more crops and some garden grown gourmet and then I will hang up my hat for the season as well.

Good luck and happy trails.

I recently tried injecting water into my agar and shaking it up. Then drew it back into syringe and went to a grain jar with it. I like the lc plan though to store through summer.

I'll let it colonize on the shelf for a couple months then into the fridge for long term storage. On a related item I came across an interesting Youtube vid about adding peptone to the LC to supercharge the mycelia, I picked up on some and maybe I need to toss those jars in waiting and make up some new... I'm not too old to learn new tricks.

The tissue sample I took from the monster PR is doing great as well as LC tests I did from 6 jars, well with the exception of one. The GT showed all the signs of a contam of some sort yesterday that I haven't seen before. It turns out I have seen it before, I went to take a pic of it to post here and it's my old nemesis, trich with the characteristic green coloration. I thought I was done with that SOB. Bummer... now I've gotta find another spore print, I've got several to chose from. Well I needed to make some more agar dishes anyway to continue with my selection process of some other dishes I've got going. Two or three seem to be ready for LC but one still needs some more work. BTW, I never was able to get anything from the JMF syringe after three tries, I might need to try knocking up a pint of rye... Three drops on an agar dish isn't doing the trick.

I finally got the box lid done, the inlay process went better than expected but the finishing process gave me fits, I finally got it done after trying different finishing methods. Now I'm having problems getting a good photo without all kinds of distracting reflections. I'll get it sorted out and post the pic before too long.

As promised a while back I finally got the inlay done and figured out how I wanted to photograph my Spice box, here it is. Dealing with the reflections made it really challenging getting the pics.

The lid is highly figured walnut, the end caps are che chen, the front/back panels are quarter sawn myrtle and the inlay is a combination of abalone and brass dots.

I'm debating whether to make a stash box for my shrooms, it would need to be at least 10x bigger to fit it all in. A jewelry chest with drawers with the appropriate molecule inlayed into the underside of the lid?

It's been a while since posting here so I thought I'd get everyone caught up on my latest escapades. For a few years now I've contemplated adding some more storage to my garage/woodshop so I put things in motion last year to do just that. The contractors put in the foundation in mid April and about a week later construction started. Here I am in the latter part of June ( is it June already, is that why it's so hot out?) and except for customizing of the space I'm putting the final touches on it. Now I've got a place to store my overflow of hardwoods, yard implements of destruction and maybe a kayak or two. Now maybe I can give my abused hands a rest.
