Actually Bez, that was the step before that led me to try making RGS agar. Started some jars using stonesuns write up. And tried a few spawn jars also. Now that the Tampa is revived I'm gonna make another round of jars. The first ones were all mexicana ---i did try the old Tampa LC on a couple but so far there's only a couple small spots of growth.

Playing with agar again

Hey y'all. Been wicked busy doing the work thing. No time for anything fun and cool. But I think I'm gonna squeeze in a couple projects to stock up for summer fun.
Decided to start a couple prints on some old agar and made up some new experimental agar with the water from boiling some popcorn. I added some potato flakes in, but I added no sugars. Guess I will see if it works or not.
Just to jump start the program I had prepped the popcorn to try some old LC of my favorite Cambodians. LC is maybe 2 years old? ??
Seems to be taking off well.
Been a while since I checked in but you know how life goes. Hope everyone has had a good year so far. And here's to making it ever better.

Glad to see your able to get in some mushroom work. life can be consuming!
On the agar front, added sugars are unnecessary- I've had success with totally sugar free plates, ( though using green/black tea as a nutrient source) . With the popcorn water / potato flakes, there's no reason that shouldn't work.

Hey hey. The prints I used were pretty old but I finally saw some germination from the 2017 AA print. No love from the God Seeker yet. Thought about adding a single drop of sterilized water to hydrate if it doesn't take hold soon.
Made a few transfers and then buried the agar under a little bit of coir/verm. Not expecting much. But a couple fruits would be a cool preview of what to expect from the grain jars once they're done.
A peek at the T1 plates after 4 days.
Light blue is the popcorn water agar. And dark blue is year old RGS water agar.
