also a tomato

"Japan: CRISPR tomato to be launched on the market without GMO assessment

03/15/2021 - A Japanese company has developed a tomato with CRISPR/Cas9 that contains particularly large amounts of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Due to Japanese genetic engineering deregulation, the product can be marketed without approval." ... etc.

waiting for the psilocybin gene to be spliced into button mushrooms by some clever person....perhaps making a mockery of the drug war with one step  and then leading to further such possibilities...

I'm trying to figure out how to stick the genes that produce cannabinoids into kudzu.

One lab is already growing GM yeast that they claim produces psilocybin, or it might just be psilocin (can't recall for sure).

I imagine that CRISPR is going to produce a lot of content for my Chaos Chronicles thread in coming years. But maybe the high-energy particle accelerator crowd will beat apocalyptic genetic fuckups to the punch and generate a black hole that swallows the whole planet instead.

On 2nd thought, I think brewers yeast would be a better organism than commercial edible mushrooms, as It's not good to dose unsuspecting people. And there are vast numbers of home brewers. Then commercial beer bottles could be recycled....

Too bad elon musk is mostly focused on useless stuff...
