It begins!

 

 

Not much to look at yet, but I've got a fun mix of projects lined up.  For starters, I just streaked these Mexicana A and RustyWhyte spores to agar.  But I also have three untested Penis Envy clones to grow out and compare.  Finally, I'm growing out my Redboy isolate again so I can send out some swabs.

I've ran the Tamps with success, I look forward to testing the Mexicana in Stone and fruit formations.  I can't wait to see others successful with these types and how it works out for you in the End.

First transfers today.  Not a hint of contamination in my first plates...sweet!

 

Here's the Mexicana plate before transfer.  I got no mycelium or anything else on the second plate.  Sorry about the picture quality.  There's some kind of moisture on the lid of the plate that's not helping either.

 

 

Both of the Rusty Whyte plates went great.

 

 

I've got plates of the 3 untested PE clones and the Redboy isolate ready to go, so if these two transfers go well I'll start cranking out grain jars of everything.

They have a reddish orange color. Pretty much like rust.

After a bit of a delay, I got some chonky wedges into grain jars.  I thought I was getting rye but it's actually wheat.

 

From left to right: Ps. Mexicana "A" (two quarts), my three untested PE strains, Rusty Whyte, and my Redboy isolate.

 

Some of the agar plates have been under refrigeration since June, but hopefully they're still nice and lively.

Much bigger wedge than I used for my Mexicana Oat jar, and it was done in just over 3 weeks.  Should plow right through that wheat.  Nice Start @SideStreet

Jars are coming along.  They're probably going slower than they would, but I had to improvise a bit when cooking the grain and it didn't cook ideally. 

 

 

Two of these are going in the fridge for a bit to let the others catch up.  I'd like to spawn them all at once.

 

Also, two of the PE jars were shaken just before I remembered to take a picture!  That's why they're not showing mycelium.

Looks like PE clone B is the winning the colonization race, so 1 point for clone B.  Into the fridge it goes for the others to catch up!

Looks like C is the slowest and A is just around the corner.  Always patience with PE.  13 days is GOOD for PE or variants.  Wheat jars coming along JUST fine.

That strain produces the most aggressive mexicana mycelium I've worked with, definitely on par with cubensis. I've had LC-inoculated quart jars of millet consolidate in under ten days. Sometimes a tray will start pinning before I can even get a casing on it. The last tray I grew (about 2"x5"x8") gave me at least 15 flushes and pumped out well over an ounce of cracker dry fruits, which is a lot, considering the small size and high potency of this species. It was still producing mushrooms after almost 4 months in the chamber but I tossed it because I was tired of picking mushrooms every other day. I predict some very fine fungus in your future sir!

I went a very small wedge, and once it jumped off in 2 or 3 days, it was Rollin.  An LC would rip through anything in under 2 weeks guaranteed.  The LC Tamp jars were 10 days on the Nose.

Getting down to some spawning.  Four of the quarts looked good to me, and three need a little more time.  The finished ones were the three PE jars and one of the Mexicanas.

 

 

I did one brick of coir a la Bod's bucket tek, which made enough coir to spawn the four bags and have some coir left over.  I put the left over in the freezer for now.
