Hi folks. I got my RQS delivery today  . I bought CBD strains Tatanka and Euphoria, and the classic Northern Lights. I got 3seeds for free, northern lights automatic. Not a fan of automatic since I am an outdoor grower, but hey they were free, I planted Tatanka (left jiffy, almost no THC) and Euphoria (right jiffy, 9% THC, 9% CBD). I covered the jiffys with celophane to get higher temps and RH. Hope they hatch soon. I will keep you posted

So three days werent enough for germination. I now have to leave for 2 weeks so I placed the jiffys without the bottom in 40 cl cups with drainage holes. I watered the cups with one forth potency fertilizer. I hope for a pleasent surprise when I return.

So I am back now but the seedlings didnt pop although its been a week. I watered them and put an heating mat for shrooms under the containers. I hope that does the trick.

Fertilizing seedlings (or seeds) isn't required, the seed has enough energy to feed itself for about 2 weeks.  Then you can get a light feeding if necessary, but I usually transplant at that stage with nutrients in the soil already.  A healthy seed and environment will pop in 3-4 days.  I hope they crack the surface soon.

So after two weeks nothing happened so I planted two more and placed them in a more cousy enviroment. One week later nothing again  , so I planted two more but soaked the seeds for 12h. today I go check and all but one seed germinated so now I have 5 plants instead of two :chucks: . Its like preparing for one son and getting triplets  IMG_20220403_114911.jpg

Hopefully with those, your triplets are daughters and not sons! :)

Good luck!

:made two mistakes: the first was to plant seeds in containers with poor drainage, so I drowned two seeds. The second was not to expose the seedlings to sunlight as soon as they emerged, so they streached and two more seedlings where lost because of their fragility. So it remained two Tatankas and one Northern Iights which I recently plantedIMG_20220416_170230.jpg . I reordered Euphoria and couldnt resist also ordered CBD strains Royal Highness and THCV. I am gonna go for variety.

I have upgraded my setup with aluminium for light reflectionIMG_20220416_170242.jpg

You might consider rigging up a LED or CFL light bulb to suspend above your seedlings.

The light can be placed quite close to the emerging seedlings (within 3-4 inches) and helps them to receive enough light so they don't stretch. Once they've put on some structure they can be hardened-off by introducing them (incrementally) to natural sunlight - and finally to direct sunlight.

I also wait until the plants have at least 4 pairs of true leafsets before transplanting into the grow soil - or providing any nutrition beyond what's available in the Jiffy Mix.

So to be clear:

Use Jiffy Mix to start seeds and foster seedlings.

At the appearance of the 4th true leafset they are ready to transplant into the "grow mix".

Best of luck with your project!

didnt had much luck with soil jiffys, bad experience, so now always use coco jiffys, drainage is great, they always sprout. after a couple of days I water with diluted nutrients just to get them going, and then always water until they are put in soil. After that, I am going organic all the way, I will just use Biobizz fertilizers..I put the jiffys in the pot when the root appears at the bottom.

I'll back up a little and be even more clear.

I am referring to Jiffy Mix - which is a loose, peat-based mix that can be loaded into containers.

You are using peat pellets of some sort. I never had any luck with those pellets. And I also have gone away from using Rapid Rooters and now simply fill a 3x3 container with loose seedling mix for both cloning and starting seeds.

I found that the plants have a bit of a struggle breaking through the netting which holds the pellets together. I tried removing the mesh netting once and managed to destroy my project.

The Rapid Rooters were nearly as bad. I could see where they had restricted the growth of the plant throughout its life.

Now that I use only loose seedling starter - Jiffy Mix or Sunshine Mix #4 (my preferred mix) - the plants develop very strong, thick, robust mainstems as they develop. This results in better uptake of water and a healthier plant overall.

Here is my method:

https://mycotopia.ne...stress-topping/

And just to be further clear.........

I'm really trying to help here. I want to see you succeed in your efforts and become independent from relying on others for your cannabis.

If we can get ahead of the learning curve on this project I strongly suspect you'll be enjoying some fine cannabis come harvest time this year. ;)

Best of luck and keep us updated!
