my pet cucumber has a nice little tub of cambo myc on coir/worm poo. . it's about 60% colonized i'd say and the invironment in there seems to be getting a bit mucky, would it be a good idea to fan now or should he wait until the mycelium takes over?

keep it covered until its colonized....I don't look for 5 days or so just to keep it closed. set it and forget it...;)

Normally a substrate tray is covered with foil or plastic that has a few small pin sized holes to prevent total stagnation of the air inside ..
Usually 4-7 days passes b4 the surface becomes mostly colonized , at which time the casing is applied and can either be sent to the fruiting chamber or returned to incubate a couple more days...
I prefer to skip the second incubation period...

Yeah let it colonize 100% before you start fanning. Poke holes in whatever you are using to cover the tub if you have not already.

I believe i read somewhere that 1:4 was a good ratio (substrate to spawn respectivly)sooo u guys think 1/2 gallon jar of rye mixed with 10 lb feild capacity hpoo would be a good mix....thanks

That should be fine. Remember the less spawn you add the longer it will take to colonize. You want total colonization in about two weeks. I usually go a little heavier than that. Usually a 1:3 ratio, but 1:4 will work great.

just wondering whether i should stick to my original plan of rye seed, or experiment with rye seed and popcorn and/or rye/popcorn/wbs spawn substrates. im a noob just wondering if anyone has tried this mix or has had success with one over the other.

mixing seed types complicates hydration a bit,
a noob would be well advised to pick one and master it,
rye is a good choice.
