So I decided to grow a few gourmets. Won a contest and had a few varieties.

Of course this immediately turned into obsession. As is my way.

I have black poplar and chestnut ready to fruit, just spawned lions mane, conifer coral, nameko, and Enoki.

Nothing like a healthy addiction to growing gourmets.

Nice work!

Hey, I love the growing process, I love to eat, and I believe in the medicinal benefits. Win all the way around!

I dint have a place here to establish long term outdoor, but my son, and my sister do. Of course just a day or two after deciding not to prepare for log grows, my brother in law tells he just cut down some elm and hackberry.

Just a heads up but I had no luck with elm for some reason.

Will be curious if you have any luck with the elm.

I will. Neither is ideal. What did you try on it? I did just start lc for hypzigus ulmarius, called elm oyster, Im assuming it prefers elm. I think I have heard shiitake and lions mane suggested, but I have only dipped into researching it.

A question for you guys. This was wood pellet/rice bran bag in storage. Turns out I didn't seal it well enough. Do I risk reprocessing or toss?20220511_110941_(1).jpg

I've never tried to re-sterilize a bag, I would toss it especially since Rice Bran and Pellets are fairly cheap to play with in bulk.

Keeping it alive!

Some Lions Mane pics. Having a bit of a humidity/FAE battle. Largest is Conifer Coral looking stalled, the others are heat tolerant Lions Mane, two on first pinning, one on second flush.20220513_131315_HDR_(1).jpg 20220513_131321_(1).jpg 20220513_131332_(1).jpg

Who has fruited Black Poplar? Got my first pins today. But has me thinking a top fruit might have done better than the side cuts similar to other gourmets.

I've been meaning to try a slice in the bag, I top fruited and did decent, been meaning to try cased as well.  I wasn't overly thrilled with open block, but fruits all the same.  I like the Piopinno a bit more than the chestnuts taste wise, but similar.  Those Hericium fruits are looking wonderful, Awesome Work!

Just random thoughts throwing out, the Black poplar reminds very much of "cubensis with an overlay problem" that kind of sounds like a non nutritive casing might help.

Now that I posted that, I realize my less than appropriate air exchange probably has a lot to do with it too.

I find each species that I try gives me a new lesson in the particulars of fruiting.....I'm definitely setting up my fruiting tent outside this year and putting substrates on shelves with a fogger keeping it misty....

Your LM looks fantastic!
