Hi all. It's been awhile since I've been active here, but the weather is warm outside, I now have a fenced in patio, and I have some old dried up PE spawn from a year ago. Since everyone talks about dumping old grows or contaminated spawn into the garden, I decided to try that with my mummified  spawn. Maybe I get something, maybe not.

1. Dried out pint of PE spawn from 2021.

2. Dig a hole and scatter the spawn in the garden.

mg_2.jpg

3. Bury spawn, cover with some shredded leaf mulch, and water.

mg_3.jpg

4. It's in the 90s here with no rain predicted, so I added a bucket of water and some wicking rope. Maybe the rope should be pushed down into the middle of the patch, I dunno.

5. Wait and see what happens....

Cool, experimentation is always worth trying.....my prediction is that another organism is going to finish eating those grains.....

I have definitely dropped a couple of cakes (and other subs not fit for staying indoors) into the middle of an artificial HPOO pile out back and covered with fresh cut grasses and weeds.....

Sometimes it surprises you.....definitely worth paying attention too and seeing what happens....

Good vibes.....coming atcha.....

A

I've never tried old spawn, but Old Subs definitely can surprise you.  I used to setup passive hydro tropical plants when I was younger, diggin' the Rope Soaker.  Definitely curious to see what happens, keep us updated with the experiment and thanks for sharing.   :meditate:

I say that almost every day, but in my case I mean one of my neighbors.

I really like the rope idea. How's it working? I've thought of trying it but never committed.

Welcome back!

Spawn's been pretty hit or miss for me. Shade is needed with high temps.

I haven't dug down any to check on things, but there's nothing top side yet. It's only been 3 days. :)

One area has plants to give it shade, a second patch will get more sun. I may go buy some stuff to shade the sunny patch.

I've been trying the same tek but have yet to see anything resembling cubes come up in the shroom patch, just the oddball generic mushroom. The ferns are happy though. Maybe its time to dump some "sub" on top of everything to see if that helps fertilize things.

I was thinking maybe some window screen folded over a few times may work as a shade cloth. I've got some old sub in a planter that I keep flipping another pot over the top of to block sun otherwise it dries out real quick. Be nice to rig up some thing better.
If I can keep the thought and ambition I might try something with soaker ropes for the garden. Like a couple lengths of rope beneath some mulch

I'm finding that I've lost some of the mushroom zen I cultivated back when growing. I have two new grain bags that I inoculated with various old LC that I still have around and I'm back to the "hurry up and do SOMEthing" mindset.

At least it's LC, I remember back when I used to shoot spore syringes Only and the Wait was agonizing, like watching paint Dry.  Hopefully you see something in 2-3 days, shouldn't be much longer either way it goes. Good Vibes.   :meditate:

Indeed, I just checked and I've got some growth from my refrigerated B+ culture. It's not crazy ultra vigorous growth, but it's there. :)

Nothing to see from the outside beds so far.

Yup speed doesn't matter at this point (Non-Factor), just get her back going and can expand or backup from there. I will sometimes drop a seed to Agar to put back, MANY options.  Glad to hear you have growth, the culture will probably kick in SOON and surprise you.   :meditate:

Garden sub fruits. I threw a PE and a Cambodian next to each other. Had a lot of rain and then real dry and hot. Not sure if the cracked one had a bug get it...or just cracked all the way to the hollow stem.

I need to find some time to get out there and work on the garden. Growing some healthy weeds and there's about it so far.

I think you're correct that something else probably finished eating the grains. I just went out back and turned over a bit of dirt in the middle of the patch. I didn't see any mycelium but I did see a ton of happy nightcrawlers.

Recently I decided it was time (well way past time) to defrost the deep freezer. I found a couple bags of leftover substrate mixed in with everything else so I put it onto one of the old cakes I put out earlier this year. The temps are right but the humidity is rather low so it's a waiting game in the meantime.
