Hello all,

I am getting back into mushroom cultivation after a long break.

I am curious which exotics will be happy growing on just coir as its bulk substrate? I believe I was successful with Mexicana before and Ill definitely be growing that again, but I have some extra bricks of coir to do something with!

Take care,
Pink.

I can tell you Pans won't fruit on Coir only, I even added straw to see if it would help, NO GO (Manure is a must).  Tamps and Mexi A will grow no problem on Coir or Verm added.  I'm pretty sure NATS will grow on just about anything.  Maybe Yoshi will chime in, he grows all kinds of exotics with different substrates LIKE No Other.

Hello PinkMenace,
glad you are getting back into it!

I live in a dry environment so I've been using CV for the texture and water reserves. So probably on straight COIR but for sure on CV, you can grow Mexicana, Natalensis, Subtropicalis/Semperviva, Caerulescens, probably Pseudoaztecorum (I added a pinch of fuel pellets), maybe Papuana?

Good luck!

Thank you for the kind words MushLuvR!

Thanks folks!

I'm going to take a shot at these next I think:

Psilocybe mexicana

Psilocybe subtropicalis

Psilocybe natalensis

Psilocybe tampanensis (which I know is essentially mexicana, as far as memory serves me)

Just put in an order for the spores :-D.

It feels good to be back.

Any considerations for the spawn jars? I was doing WBS back then, but I remember some success with a very very easy rye (? wheat?) berries recipe (essentially, put the berries up and then fill with water up to a certain line, then PC as usual).... unfortunately I didn't document it.

That list should keep you busy for a while!

For me, no prep oats or barley (probably wheat) 10ml water per Tbsp grain. 2 Tbsp grain, 20ml water gives you a 1/4 pint of cooked grains w/room to shake. I PC 15psi for 90min up to quart size.

I'll revise Caerulescens to a probably on CV alone since other times I had stuff like Wpoo, fuel pellets, etc.
