Seems Ian has landed and is wreaking a path of flood and destruction. Sending prayers and good wishes to be safe and alert to our friends in Florida, especially any in the Tampa and Sarasota areas.....

Prayers and positive thoughts for those in Florida

dammit, the place I took this pic was pretty much the center of landfall
unless you've been in these very lowland parts of the coast it's difficult to comprehend how exposed they are to wind and high water. Even if your house is "windproofed" construction there's nothing you can do to keep the frickin' ocean out of your house if it's 2 feet high on your lawn. Nevermind all the damage to property, vehicles, etc by salt water.
I love Florida but you couldn't pay me to live there.

I have a handful of good friends and people I love down there right now. The ones that actually live down there seem to enjoy the storms for the most part. They always laugh about it and accept it as the price of living in such an awesome place. Doesn't make me worry any less for them. Prayers for all effected by this.

I've never been through a hurricane, but that's mostly 'cuz where I have lived they call them typhoons. I've never enjoyed gambling with money, but I've always loved being in a big storm, so I guess I cant say I don't enjoy any form of gambling.
The adrenalin junky in me understands the incomparable feeling of being in the middle of such amazing power, when mother nature is mad it is awe inspiring. It is truly a rush like no other.
Some people get scared and hide under the blankets, others want to stand outside in it and feel it's unstoppable power. Those feeling that come from witnessing the power of the wind, and sea are likely some of the biggest influencers for the choices I've made in where I live, and how I've paid for it. You just cant get that kind of rush out of a bottle, or a baggie. I know, because I've tried. Wanting to witness the power of nature is an addiction I'm sure I'll take to my grave.
With all that said, I hope everyone who stayed behind to ride it out makes it out the other side safe. God bless you all.

I love how you mention that - the fact that lots of people love the adrenaline rush of it. I have a lot of people, partying their way through this right now. It really is so exciting! All that energy! Rolling around...Up in the sky and all around, its a deeply spiritual experience! I used to love that feeling, surfing the razor's edge.

I cannot lie.....I'm thrilled by the stunningly overwhelming power of a common thunderstorm, let alone the AWESOME power of a CAT 4/5 cyclone.....just the lightning bolts themselves are almost incomprehensible in function....the energy is incredible!
You might even grasp that you're just a slick little bug in the face of such a giant.....and accept it. I've been in two tornadoes and close to a handful more and they tore some shit up......been a-feared a time or two as well
Debris ripping around at a couple hundred miles per hour is serious business....it's a sand blaster on pure space coke.....then there's storm surge which is of course a completely different beast to deal with.
Still more good vibes going out...it ain't even close to Mid November either......
Be safe y'all.....
