I can't remember where I read it or maybe it was just a dream but the idea of a post harvest dunking of your flowers. Right after harvest, just a gentle dip in some cool water to remove bugs, dirt, debris then hang to dry. Might do a test run with the smaller flowers this year.

Anyone have experience here?

I wash all my outside bud to remove dirt and bugs. I use three buckets of water. One has a cup of lemon juice added, the second had a cup of baking soda and the last one is straight water. Dunk in each bucket for about 45 seconds then hang to dry.

The logic of doing a dunk is not arguable .................

I don't know why I never thought about it before. Too bad all of my harvest has already been trimmed and is drying. I think I'll be doing a dunk from now on. I appreciate the suggestion and additional info.

I have been washing buds for well over 5 years, you can use lemon or lime juice mixed with baking soda (reaction).  It must be mixed together to work the best.  I use one bucket to wash them, and two rinse buckets.  It will make your buds look vibrant and healthy and they will dry evenly.  There is definitely a difference in the quality, the smoke is OH SO Smooth.  It's no different than washing veggies before they are consumed, and lime/baking soda has SO many uses for cleaning just about anything.  Make sure they are thoroughly rinsed and HANG them as usual.  Don't be fooled by the old fairy tales of "boiling" roots, or some crazy shit, Bud Washing IS Legit!

I gave it a try with the first plant to be harvested, a Sour Patch Kiss hybrid. The plant was grown outdoors and hadn't been rinsed yet. I dunked the freshly harvested buds for about 30 seconds then let drip another 30 sec before moving on.

First bucket, 2Tbsp citric acid in about 5 gallons water.



#2, 2Tbsp baking soda in about 6 gallons water.



#3 & 4 just plain water.

Hmmmm good idea, all my plants have been indoors its not something I have had to think about until recently. I do have a plant that needs harvest, think I will try this out I did notice a few small bits of nature on the buds when I brought it into the house.  

 

 

I guess my question is there any concern that the acid could break it down or destroy it somehow to create a potency loss? It doesn't seem to bond well to acids in general but could it break it down at all? Or am I talking out my basic chemistry arsehole here?

 

I suppose yall may have mitigated that via procedure anyway, be it with the staged dips or mixing them to create the fizzy mostly neutralized solution

I trust Phineas on that thread and others, plus the amount of citric acid I'm using is very low compared to the volume of water. I looked at the trichomes from my recent harvest/soak and they appear to be intact. I'm just starting to mess with this myself but so far, so good. The buds are drying normally and only a couple tiny spiders have shown up, hopefully that continues. Next plant will probably be harvested Sun.

Second plant down, a Fruitella hybrid and it was dirty! Lots of small beetles, white flies, spiders and ants among other things. The bottom of the first 2 buckets had a layer of silt. Now that I've tried a post harvest dunk, I'm not turning back. The downside, it probably quadruples my time for harvesting.
