Hey I'm Mango, I'm fascinated with mycology although I'm just getting started. I know much about plants though ;)
I'm just looking for a community of like minded people I can learn with. A friend of mine told me about this place.
Good day :)

Thank you all for the welcomes :)
Mainly just been doing some indoor lab stuff to keep me busy lol. I love learning things and while my plants seem to be on autopilot now, I needed to find something to keep myself busy/challenged. After enough years playing with cannabis, I found it way easier now than when I first started. For the record, I'm not stating I'm an expert by any means lol. Just that I no longer have to Google things every time something would pop up yes I've dealt with a lot of different issues and thoroughly enjoyed learning how to correct them which in turn makes it easier if that makes sense?

So now I'm just trying my hand at mycology and loving it although I'm still learning and there's still a bunch of other equipment I'd like to get so I can do my own sterilizing and agar work. I take care of my grandmother full time so funds are pretty tight at the moment. Recently purchased 2 spore syringes of Golden Teacher, and hoping the results from them turn out well although I fear it might not. I just don't want everything to fail and then be out of the bit of cash I was able to put aside to make this happen and no results lol.

Right on! It is easy and cheap to start small and build up equipment over the year. Mushrooms can be easily grown using jars and pots found at the thrift store and plastic containers recycled from the trash. Just buy a clear large bin to make a SAB and you have yourself a reliable way to culture mushrooms on grain and even agar!

In the beginning I used to prep grain in jars and sterilize in a cheap electric pressure cooker from the thrift store and I pasteurized coir in a cooler found at a donation drop outside of a college dorm room during summer break.

As the years have gone by I have upgraded. Now I have a few different sizes of jar and grow bags to choose from and have a large instant-pot for sterilization. I still use my old SAB.

Thanks for the reply moonless!
Yea I need to make a SAB, so far I only used 1 syringe to hit a few of the uncle Ben's whole grain brown rice pouches, n put micropore tape over the cut corner. Did it in my closet, sprayed disinfectant, wore a mask, 70% iso, gloves.. yea I tried to keep things as sterile as I could, given what I had/aquired/researched lol.

I really want to get into agar, as I find this whole mycology thing fascinating.

The pouches of uncle Ben's rice that I hit with the syringe, some of them seem like there getting harder/firming up near and right below the needle injection point.
Looking through the window on the bottom, the parts that are becoming more firm definitely seem like becoming more whitish, and solid kinda. Has anybody done this method before? And from a spore syringe, roughly how long would you guess it would take to fully colonize?

Sounds like you did the best you can to keep things clean! That white stuff is a good sign its mycelium growing. Hopefully it is the intended species! It can take a little under a month to colonize from spores. As the weeks go by you can watch it grow.

It's been a little over a week, so I'm probably just being impatient lol. I remember when I grew my first cannabis plant.. that was like trying to watch a pot boil water. I was new to that then, now.. it's been quite a few years and tons of harvests since those early days. This is something new and exciting lol.

More weed porn! Sweet.....can't wait to see your mushroom porn......PF TEK is a great place to start IME and IMHO

As you develop your skills and gather equipment (a pressure cooker changes everything but) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.........

PF TEK brings the possibility of growing mushrooms to the masses.....for starters and some just keep doing it

Whatever you decide to try.....sending very good grow vibes

NICE buds!

Right now I have 8 pouches of the uncle Ben's rice. And it looks like all are starting to get white mycelium growth.

So I'm thinking after they fully colonize, I will break them up and do the coco coir in a shoebox.

Would this be a preferred way to go?
I saw that I could possibly fruit them right from the bag, but I can't imagine that would yield very much.

Also, would it be possible to keep one of these bags, after fully colonized, to use to further inoculate more bags? Like a grain to grain transfer? If that's what it'd be called lol?

I'm literally a beginner, and this is my first time trying this by myself so my main goals are to... 1. Actually see shrooms fruit. 2. Have a worthwhile harvest, and 3. Be able to use what I'm currently cultivating to knock up more bags or jars and keep it going (kinda like cloning cannabis) I know it might seem like bit for my first try, but I do understand the concept for the most part, or at least I think I do lol. Ive been growing/breeding cannabis for a while, and I love learning new things so i figure i might as well jump right in. Only way going to learn and build confidence in this is by actually doing it.

Just wanna thank you guys for following along and helping answer/ clear up any questions I might have. I do sincerely appreciate it. :)
