One needs to bear in mind that fungicides don't work on mycelium, only spores. Nobody shoots spores into their manure

is it critical to test ph, or is there a universal amount of lime to add?

properly composted dung should end up with a fairly neutral ph

[quote name='Rodger']There is nothing wrong with store bought composted cow manure. It works great for mycology. As a matter of fact, it's all I use. I live in a big city and don't have easy access to horse farms. It doesn't matter a whit if it has fungicides or not. In fact, the fungicides might help prevent contamination in your bulk grows. One needs to bear in mind that fungicides don't work on mycelium, only spores. Nobody shoots spores into their manure. We shoot spores into our agar or grain spawn, then place the live mycelium into our compost/poo.

I'm not talking about it having an effect on the growth of mushrooms. I'm talking about eating the fruit from a fungicide ridden substrate. I'm well aware of the situation you're explaining.

Nearly all mushroom farms that are not organic use Banrot on their mushroom crops to control trich and cobweb. If you've ever eaten store bought mushrooms, you've eaten mushrooms grown on fungicides. It's FDA approved.

LOL! FDA approved. Don't forget Vioxx and Celebrex were FDA approved. You see what those approvals got us.
