The Triangle - its a move that can dominate opponents, if perfected.

Here is a great example:

The Standing Guillotine is a favorite of Jon Jones, and quite effective.

I love spinning back fists.  Pretty unforgiving forces coming at you.

Good old front kick finishes.  Simple but deadly.

Body shot knock outs.  You wouldnt think it'll end the fight, but it does indeed.

Who would win a fight between a boxer and a body builder?

Death by a thousand leg kicks.

Leg kicks are surprisingly far more effective than most of us thought.

What's a different question is who would win a fight between a boxer and someone who trains calisthenics.

fuck you're making me miss the couple of weeks of jiujitsu classes I got to take before moving. Bout to move here again shortly, gonna have to find a gym where I'm headed for sure.

Thing I like about jiujitsu is the 'technical precision' aspect of it. There is a 'correct' way to perform each move- and getting the angle right means the amount of strength/force you need for submissions drops

to almost zero.

Me too!  I always wanted some training in Jujitsu but still never made it that far.  I sure would like to get into it, one day.  I wrestled in middle & high school so the thing I remember the most is the first 2 minutes you find out real quick, how long 2 minutes really is, in super slow mo.  Your fight or flight takes over and you spend all of your energy in the first several seconds, with very little left in the gas tank (I tend to keep that in mind because the average man isnt going to be able to fight for long, and thats kindof out of his control).

I'd say they have about 30 seconds tops... and after that, you can do whatever you want to most of them.  If you have any kind of endurance at all, you will probably win the fight.  if you know how to punch, you will probably win the fight.  If you can defend yourself, you will probably win the fight.  But theres always the unknown factor.  You really never know who knows what and who can throw down.  Most of us assume we all can, but I dont think thats remotely true at all.  Even hilariously untrue.

Am I really going to need to fight, as I grow older?  I hope not but maybe.  I still love the art of it.  Its a beautiful thing, both outstanding defense and outstanding offense.  I love it and I cant get enough.  In life, you have times when its necessary to become an aggressive beast.  There are other times when you have to use your charm.  Offense and defense.  It applies to life.  We go forward but avoid incoming bombs, we push forward through tough terrain, ducking some shots along the way, footwork is important, so is having a strong chin.  When, and not if, you take a really hard shot, you have to be able to drop to one knee, and shake it off, and get the fuck up, all before he hits your wobbly face with a big right. I think the art of hand to hand combat applies to life on many levels.

Definitely.

I think it was my second jiu jitsu class- maybe my first- but three quarters of the way through; I'd just been sparring with the teacher; and I started overheating. It took me 15 minutes outside, deep breathing, and still I was close to vomitting.

Which was saying a LOT as at the time I was in literally the best shape of my life- and, in easily in better fitness than 95% of the people out there; training calithesneics on a regular basis, working on Straddle Planch and free standing handstand pushups- But even so; I was WIPED. Took me days to recover from it; but it really is a different output. Calithesnics requires short bursts of maximal effort; whereas the full-body-total-engagement of using all of your force against another human being; it really is a different beast entirely.

My goal where I'm going is to first get a solid handle on the jiujitsu-but I definitely intend to learn some striking-form as well; I'd love to have the opportunity to combine them.

For me, Kung Fu is really the end game; but until I can make it to my own mountain and set up a monastery-dojo, I figure I'll learn some practical forms while I can.

Actually participating in some UFC type stuff is hugely appealing to me as well- but that's definitely a ways off. I feel like it's the natural progression for a well-developed body- It wants (or demands) an opportunity to further test itself; whether that's in some manner of perforamance (dance, circus etc) or competetition.  I'm definitely at that point physically.
