Hi all, my blue gray oyster bags are fully colonized, but I have a couple questions. Do I squeeze the air out and tape down before cutting holes in the sides? Two of the bags have pockets of water/myc piss on the sides, do I attempt to drain that once I poke holes?

I haven’t grown in summer before. In winter, I set tent up in the house and emptying the humidified air into the house was fine because the furnace was running and the air was dry. I could put the tent in the garage or in my block shed. I’m thinking the shed because the building tends to be more humid - it’s an old milk house with cement floor and block walls. Do you think I still need the tent/humidifier/fan setup out there or might the still-ish air of the closed building be enough? I’m also thinking about trying a bucket setup out there.

Any advice is welcome.

First....nice work.......second...

Check this out......there are so many ways that work.....two rules...plenty of draining moisture and plenty of fresh air......holes poked in bags works....tops rolled down works.....taken out of the bags works......

Grown in crates works......grown in straw bales outside works very well (literally stuff the colonized materials/spawn into a straw bale) a colonized bag sized cake buried in soil will fruit......

Maintaining high humidity and a good volume of fresh air exchange....no stale air or standing water....wet and fresh.....

Dig this (it's just how I did it)..... https://mycotopia.ne...12#entry1331266

Good growing vibes....

Wow, Arathu! I downloaded Tapatalk so I could sit down and read your log. I read your links and then started at the beginning. I’m at page 200 of 597 :)

I wish I was a mechanical/electrical whiz like some of you! I love the crates, are they tough to empty/clean once they’ve finished?

I was considering trying bucket grows this summer, and you’ve got me considering just using my colonized blocks on it now. I’m concerned that I’ve got cool weather oysters and I’m not sure what happens if the temperature isn’t optimal. I should’ve ordered some yellow or pink!

Yesterday I prepped my first agar plates (jars, actually). My new LCs and spores are here, they include lions mane and king oyster. I’m not sure how much to drip onto my agar.

I’ve grown LM before but not from scratch. I’m rethinking my setup, and I think the basement will be the best option for my little tent, because I can keep the temp cooler in the hot months. I need to figure out how to duct my air out a window, doing the opposite of my winter setup that blew humid air out the bottom into the house. I’ll have to flip my pc fans and conjure up a way to connect a duct.

I’ll definitely continue reading your logs. I know what I’ll be dreaming about tonight! :) thank you

Cleanup is almost effortless...cake falls right out.....everything washes off the plastic with a hose or in a washtub....

I wipe them down with 70% ISO and stack them for the next run.....very useful little containers
