I haven't been able to find any band aids that breathe enough through the micropore filter. I've been to my dollar general store and wal mart and all I seem to find are waterproof band aids that are pure waterproof sealant with a gauze underneath.

I don't really understand why this would pass as a band aid since they're supposed to breathe.

Anyone else having this problem?

Tweexican, those bandaids you speak of that are totally sealed will work fine..... mine are also under plastic and breathe very little if at all... alas so far this has worked fine.....

I have 0 contam problems as of recent

if needed i could send ya a box of bandaids....

also if anyone is interested in purchasing these lids pre made please PM me.... i have spoken with hippie and we may offer these lids pre made in a variety of styles through mycrotopia!

They are fairly simple to make however not everyone can find the bandaids so we may offer them premade... will have to see if this idea comes to fruition

waiting patiently for hippie to decide if he likes these micropore bandaids...

honestly i dont keep tinfoil on my jars anymore, only when pressure cooking.... these jar lids are the shit.....

Now someone needs to figure out how to make the lids not rust

maybe a clear laquer? that can withstand heat and water/fluids....

look into that

I noticed some lids were made seal up and some seal down. Have you seen any difference between the two. the band-aid is always on top right?
So you nail 2-5 holes, then stick down the band-aid, then silicone II the remaining holes. Just want to try this and don't want to waste time screwing it up.
Keep up the good work, it looks great!!

So I read this post and thought YES this is what I need.
I went to all of the big name Pharms, no luck.
After work I reread your post and saw where you said dollar store. DERP!

Whent to said store and there were 40 boxes!
I had to control myself. bought three boxes.

All of my Tyvek jars seem to go really slow. No gas exchange?
so any way i will give this a try and hope for the best.
Thanks CHAOS

DO NOT USE SILICONE I or AQUARIUM Silicone as suggested this is the wrong silicone... im not sure if this was a typo on wtoad's part however it will melt in the pressure cooker immediately or over time if i remember correctly...

Perhaps a brand issue? Never happened to me. Not for aquarium silicone anyway.

Odd. Didn't catch this earlier. Poor reading skills.

My personal preference is Silicone I. I've never had it melt in the PC. My lids have been reused numerous times without any problems.

The preference of Silicone I over Silicone II is Silicone I's lack of impregnated fungicide and anti mildew chemicals.

my reading skills lack as well

not sure what i saw on silicone I that made me decide against it.... I think it was the resistance to high temps...

not sure....

i always use the RTV silicon adhesive from auto parts store,

http://mycotopia.net...35&d=1129332413

never had one melt

but i did once have the vacuum suck a hole thru because
the lid ring was too tight, and i had not allowed enough
time for the silicon to harden.
i now leave the ring loose so the lid can move slightly
as it heats/cool
and haven't had any more issues.

I bought the wrong brand (bandaid tough strips) so I will go get some cheap ones at the dollar store. It looks as if you just slapped the bandaid on there along with the plastic adhesive, is it able to breathe past that plastic?

nail polish the brightest color you can find under the clear silicone helps you find the hole when your drunk and it helps with the rust.
