I recently returned from a trip that included
a four day stay in Amsterdam. I thought my
fellow mushroom munchers might be interested
in what I found.

Because I don't walk too well we had to drive
in Amsterdam which is crazy and not recommended
unless you can read Dutch and can deal with a
train in your lane and driving on the sidewalk.
But either way we saw a small art fair and
parked at what we discovered was Rembrant
Square. We had already found the coffeeshops,
where they sell pot and hash, and were still dealing
with what was the strongest grass I have ever
smoked. After chilling in a sidewalk cafe with a
beer we wondered off the square and found
Mushroom Galaxy (www.mushroomgalaxy.com)
where they sold fresh shrooms. There was a menu
on the side of a referigerated case and it listed
five types, Mexican, Thai, Ecudorian, and
Coplandia. They also sold Philosopher Stones.

The Mexican were said to be for beginners with
lots of smiles and colors, the Thai with more
smiles, colors and mild visuals. The Ecuadorian
were said to be strong and not for beginners and
the Coplandia for experts only. I don't recall a
explanation for the Philosopher Stones but I
understand it is a strong physical, body, high.

They priced from 12 Euros for the Mexican and
Thai to 14 for the Ecuadorian and 16 for the
Coplandia. A Euro is about $1.30 US dollars.

My friend and I both tried the Thai. It was as
described for me, smiling happy and mild visuals
great fun. My friend spent a few hours comunicating
with aliens from space but was not unhappy about
the trip.

The mushrooms came in plastic containers with 35
grams each. They were all closed caps and it
was impossible to get them to print. The taste
was very good similar to fresh mushrooms from
the store with no stomach problems.

Now more about Amsterdam, bring your money!

This place and Europe is really expensive for
Americans. The dollar is down against the
Euro and the Pound and it hurts. We flew
into London and on the drive to my daughters
home we stopped at a rest area on the
motorway (freeway). I noticed at the
Burger King that a double Whopper was
5.99 I thought that was a little high and
went to the restroom. When I came out
I looked again and realized that that was
5.99 British Pounds about $10.80 for a
fast food hamburger. I didn't eat there. It
takes a while to accept the prices and that
you will be in debt by the time you get
home. Other things I found expensive,
$7.50 for a Snickers bar at the Hilton where
a room was $525 a night and about $1.80
and up for a drink of water. And nobody
drinks tap water only bottled. But the worse
was a half a buck to use the pisser in a
few places.

The grass and the hash in the coffeehouses
are about 10 Euros per gram. The selection
is huge and the best explanation I got was
sativa is high and indica is stoned. Someone
told me to pick something with white in the name
and I'd be OK. I got a sativa called White
Snake and it was great but really strong.
I don't think I could smoke a gram in a day
even if I tried. My friend got a indica called
bubble gum and one hit had me crawling
on the floor to get around. This stuff smelled
like someone ran over a skunk about a hundred
feet away.

We weren't checked by customs in 6 border
crossings. But if you are comming from Amsterdam
you can expect to be checked and with the
stink of that weed it won't take a dog to find you.
Please try to use some good sense when crossing
between countries. If you appear to be Arabic or
Indoneasean expect the most severe inspection.

I had the time of my life. Go and have some fun too.

Very cool Raul, reminds me of my trip last summer. We too crossed borders with ease, except for one. I had stashed the bulk of some really nice weed in a little whiskey flask, packed inside plastic straws. We rolled joints when we wanted to smoke so as not to keep a smelly piece on us. Unfortunately, arriving in Chiasso, Italy, They brought the dogs on board and he goes wild for my friend (who had nothing, I was holding the stash). Apparently, he had never washed the pants he'd wore in Amsterdam and the smell was all over the seat...

Ah well, I'm no longer allowed in Italian borders as they confiscated a whole dutch ounce off me (whoops, I was beyond the legal limit in AMSTERDAM, lol). We worked it all out in station, but missed the last train out and had to stay the night. All in all, I only spent around $2,000-$2,500 on my trip; but we were a group of 3 kids used to starving ourselves on college budgets.
www.hostelworld.com is probably your best resource for any Eurotrip, as you can find rooms with breakfast included for as little as 5 euro in some places.

Cannibis in a coffeeshop should run you about 4-5 euros a gram. I get a 25 euro 5 gram bag, but it is discounted to 20 euros durring 'happy hour' and certain days. 10 euro a gram sounds like grasshopper prices/other tourist shop (bulldog?). They rip you off big. I have seen 20E/gram in the grasshopper - that is totally unheard of in this country. Be sure to try some smaller shops that are not smack-dab in the middle for better deal (and much better bud!).

I'm heading up to Amsterdam for the first time starting tomorrow and I'll be there for about a week. I'd love to get some suggestions of places to see that are a bit off the beaten track (might be hard in amsterdam I suppose) or simply must see places for that matter.

Any recommendations for a place to stay (preferably cheap) is also appreciated!

You should visit one of the mushroom shops like Mushroom Galaxy.
That link also shows LOTS of stuff to do around town, and some good hostels and campsites.

We went about 4 years ago, one place I liked was mushroom valley I think or it might be the one suggested above. Also Innerspace, small but cool.

When you get there you must find the guide to the city, it's in almost any headshop. It has all the shops, maps and tips on buying herb and shrooms, etc. Some shops sell it a but higher than others.

Many seed shops, Gypsy Nirvana is awesome, when we went the guy let me roll 2 joints out of a pile of weed he had on the counter, free to take with me. :)

That is the best guide to coffeeshops although some of the reviews are a bit biased. Amnesia was my favorite shop along with The Grey Area, Dampkring, Greenhouse Nemaste and several others.

Botanical Gardens and all the museums are fabulous. I didn't spend too much time in the shops, I would just stop and smoke every time I felt like it and then continued about my fun. Enjoy it and watch the red light district, sometimes people can be alittle sketchy. The Vondelpark was the greatest park, I really stayed more on the west and south sides instead of in the red light district.

Really cool pics.... I like how closer in the red light district you can walk by a grocery store, and the next store over in the alley you find a woman behind glass waving at you... it's something unexpected, or out of place feeling.
Did you stop at the koffeeshops or any bars? lots of local brewed beers
