Wow, you found an earthstar (first pic)! Looks like it was on woody debris under a conifer? Can you tell me any more about it by any chance? I've been trying to find one of those for some time. Thanks!

Earthstars are not edible. They're real pretty though.

I was pretty excited to find the earth star (Geastrum fimbriatum, I think). It was found growing in a mix of hardwood/coniferous debris. Pine, oak, and rhododendron were the dominant plants in the area... tons of acorns which made this little devil blend right in. I searched for mycelium in the litter, but couldnt find anything visible. I too would like to find out what the LBM is, llama. It was growing on/around a nice old stump- in great numbers too! Tis getting pretty cold here, so chances are these are my last finds before spring. :eusa_eh: But winter is for indoor cultivation, right!!??:amazed:
