I dunk 20 hours in individual jars and
before the first flush.

I fruit them invitro.

If it's a slow colonizer, I will dunk at birth, as I figure it's lost much moisture during colonization. If it's quick, I will wait till after the 1st flush. I probably overdo it, but I dunk in the jars individually, refridgerated, and for around 24 hours. You don't have to put the dunked cakes in the fridge, though. And use a wad of foil or a bottle cap to keep the cake submerged.

how crucial is refridgeration for dunking? Stealth is of the utmost importance right now and access to a refridgerator is limited.

You could use one of those styrofoam cooler's with some ice dumped in the water... the reason for the 'cold' is to make it harder for any contam's to grow.
I got lazy, and stopped dunking really.... i used cased tray's though, so I just pour in a little water... i'm good at eyeballing how much water the substrate should soak up... if i come back a little later and there's still water, I just tilt and pour it out.
If ya got cakes, just use the cooler....

Please do not post unless you are being helpful, most folks are well aware of how dangerous the situation of growing can be.
If I remember from past posts, he is growing at a friend's house. Maybe he has the permission to grow somewhere on the property, maybe his friend just doesn't want him putting mushies in his fridge.... who knows, it's not important.

Yes I get it, Im just trying to ensure he isnt gonna get himself and his parrents into a very undesireable situation.

Friends house is where its set up at, I don't live there and he recently got some new roommates that I don't particualrly trust with my hobby. So i am doing an invitro grow in the basement.

oh, and by the way, there is no real need to refrigerate usually. I guess it depends on the climate you live in... but I never bother and I have done ok so far.

I've never fridged a dunk,but thats just me.I've had good success without it lol!

A teaspoon of peroxide in a quart of water will help keep the cakes from getting slimey in a warm water[roomtemp] dunk....

I read in some thread about a dunking TEK that has the cake in the jar with water under a vacuum. I can see how more hydration would occur but is the Myc damaged by the vacuum?

I don't see why you would even want to use a vacuum. Dunking in the jar works very well. Why complicate things. IMO

it speeds up the absorbing of the water by opening micro-pores in the cake.
not required but handy if you have it.
the vacuum is only partial, not enough to do damage.
