Can't speak for others, but I know that when I got started, I was mauled at other shroom internet sites because I didn't know shit about squat.

So now I try and help out as much as I can - it's a close-knit community and a very separated one at the same time. We all share a similar interest but must stay safe while sharing as much of ourselves as possible.

Besided helping with grow advice, we monitor the threads for questionable material that could attract negative attention from unwanted parties. Good members know the board rules and make efforts not to make hasty decisions that may reflect poorly on our community as a whole. Shrooms are demonized enough without guys cutting their cocks off while tripping (not a member, but a bad scene anyway you cut it...err, I mean look at it).

Ideally, I suppose, there would be no need for Mods, but alas, any large grouping of diverse personalities will result in some clash and poor judgement, especially when you consider the nature of our membership and our shared dreams :)

I too started off as a normal member curious about growing. That soon blossomed into modship and surprisingly enough through other businesses of mine I am now hosting and managing all the technology behind the scenes.

Like hip, however, I must keep a clean house now ‘a days due to my vested interest in this site. Gotta keep the piggies off my back should shit hit the fan!

Basically everything you see I build, maintain, upgrade, etc, etc. Daily operations of the site as a whole and server performance and security. I know it's a less glamorous job, and certainly more obscure since most people don't consider what goes into making a site this large actually work... But behind every large site there is someone there like myself keeping everything up and working.

So, in the end, I'm not as active as I once was due to life getting in the way and such, but I am around every single day making sure things continue to run smoothly - adding new features and upgrading when necessary.

I've got my stake in the Mycotopia Archives for a couple of TEKS I did way back when (like 4+ years ago) so I'm firmly set in the myco hall-of-famedom.

:teeth:

Keep the peace!

i once likened Zen's role to that of building and maintaining a theater
whereas i write and stage the play on the stage within.
i think that's a fairly close and accurate description of our roles here,
he builds the structure and i fill it with content.
stage manager & playwright, a symbiotic relationship.

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

I too, as a mod, keep a clean house. I still dabble with oysters, shittakes, and other gourmets. I like cloning shrooms form the wild like ganadoderma and such. My main goal here, now, is to help as much as I can and to teach the things I have been taught.
