I had essentially the same question in another thread of the same topic. I did a quick search on the Google and found that bioluminescent mushrooms attract insects at night, which then eat the mushroom or lay eggs, then carry the spores with them elsewhere.

And now I see that Llama beat me to the answer.

Well Mycotopia Community, we must work to get samples and spore prints of these mushrooms. I've never seen them glow so bright before!

Maybe not the brightest mushrooms, but Sporeworks does carry spores of glowing mushrooms.

I'd like to grow them on logs and bring them to our camp at the next Winnipeg Folk Festival. It would blow everyone's mind.

That is CRAZY! Eveytime I see an example of bioluminescence (esp in the mush) it makes my mind swim. It might help the fungus with dispersal (like Doc D suggests), but many things use bright colors to fend off predators. It is more fun for me to think of possible ways of using bioluminescence for fungi-fungi communication.
and swimming.........

This is very strange... about 15 years ago some friends and i ate some magic mushrooms. about 45 minutes in one of them puked. All 4 of us agreed that the puke was glowing on its own accord and we have referred to that incodent many times since. I had no clue until now that there was bioluminescent mushrooms. I wonder if a chemical in the mushrooms reacted to my friends stomach acid and made it glow. Or maybe we were just really freakin lit!
