Whatever the % is, it works very well. Don't worry! It'll work out fine. I use the flowers on the straw too. I've never once had a problem with them.
Allrighty. I'm glad to hear that the grain is no problem, 'cause it seems to me that the nutrients contained within the flowers will make for a great substrate as well.
Oh yeah. Cutting straw sucks... did I mention that yet? lol... I've got bags that are used in the transportation of dangerous goods, and are built to handle gallon bottles, roughly a gallon and a half space in the bag if filled up with a log, and about the diameter of a 6 inch duct. Also got one quart bags, probably hold 2 or so quarts inside, but they're closer to 4 inch duct diameter, so I don't know if that's enough width to hold moisture... any opinions?
I've cut for a total of an hour now, and I've got one bagful. Does wet straw tend to compress far more than dry stuff? Cause if it does, then I've not even got enough for a single bag yet. Boo-urns. Back and forth between the straw and the cigs and coffee, and the TV and interweb. Automation will be the key if I continue this hobby beyond this first time.
About 2.5 quarts of popcorn to about 3 gallons of straw sound okay?

Oh yeah, and thanks tons for all the help. I like how live this board is, despite what seems to be a small membership. The newer look is far better than before, too (I was buying shroom supplies on 9/11, but haven't grown since the following summer... basically pf tek with finely ground vermiculite... as a touch of advice to others, the total yield per half pint jar was close to 15 dry due to the denser cakes that it made, but it did take a long ass time to incubate)
