faht here. I've got a couple PE bins just about to pop, so i thought that i'd
share. I freakin love this strain. so very prolific. cool lookin shrooms too.
these first two pics are of one bin and the last pic of a 2nd bin that is a couple days behind the first one.
these two bins should be packed full of mushies by the end of it all. :) each cake will eventually
look just like the next, for the most part. this is the same isolate from this
thread...

that second one is moving wicked quick. this may be interesting to some... i used medium grade verm in the cake mix of the first bin's cakes... and fine in the second... i think the fine is definitely better... the cakes in the first bin didn't fuzz up before pinning like the cakes in the second bin. Plus, i can tell that the second bin is going to be a bit 'prettier' and fuller than the first is. still, not complaining for an instant. ;)

Habitat: mostly the couch, but will often find refuge on my face while i sleep (it's a frickin miracle i'm here)
Hobbies include: Pissing me off, playing fetch, waking me up to play fetch, dropping the ball juuuuust out of my reach so that I too get to play fetch, and of course eating, sleeping, and shitting. oh yeah, he loooooves to eat plastic i.e. any kind of candy wrapper, baggie, CD wrapper, etc.
Aliases: cheesus, squido, cheeto, fahtass, dooder, HEY knock it off.
enjoys head rubs (but nowhere else or your hand and arm and gonna get tore up) think he weighs about 20 - 22 lbs. hes not really that fat.... just massive boned. lol

lol... i came home to find him sitting like that. I did put the pipe, bag, and lighter there, but he rolled over on the remote like that. it's not just the couch he sits like that on either... he will sit in the middle of the floor like that too... just kinda sit inside himself. lol i love this cat more than I do most people.
I told him to close his eyes in case there was any kind of retinal scanning the MAN could do. lol
j/k it was the flash

but
the tops of those DE cased cakes
look like a desert
relatively.
you really should give coir a try in DE casing, faht
i believe you'll get a greatly improved performance

I don't use the DEC like others, i think. I use it to water the cakes as needed. that layer is about 2 inches thick... nothing is going to grow thru that. I use it a as a resevoir. see, i think the cakes hold onto most of their water until about mid pinning... right after the cake has most of it's pins to 'maturity' (as far as pins go) it releases all it's held up water into the pins making them grow so damn fast... kind of 'extends' them with water. the thought came to me cuz i've been watching their water content everyday... i tap the top of the 2 in. verm layer to see if it's moist or not. I soak it when i make the cakes and the idea is to keep that layer or 'reserve' moist to wet... if it was a little dry on the top when i tapped on it, i'd squirt some water on it... i didn't need to do that very often while the cake was knotting and starting the pinning stage. BUT, two days ago i soaked that top layer in the first bin... it was wet. then today AFTER the large pins/mushrooms had grown i went back and the verm layers were dry. lol some were bone dry. then i thought about it and it make sense.. the cake needs to get that water from somewhere. i'm sure this isn't news by any means but to me it is very helpful... you know i'll be watering my cakes mid fruiting for sure. :) whatchya think?
and as far as pullin more mushies out of these cakes goes... lol man, i don't know how much more they can take. i'm reasonably expecting 5 oz from each bin... that about 5.8 grms per cake... i did actually try cakes with a straight coir casing... the myc. colonized the coir making watering the cake impossible... so i don't know...
I'm happy :)

ain't bad
but it can be beaten.
i did notice the thickness and understand your rationale.
still i'll bet
adding say 10-20% coir to it
would indeed improve its' performance.
for others, if not for you.

5.8 is an average over 48 cakes... i've had single cakes smash the shit out of that... but i'd, if you won't mind, would like to see my 5.8 beaten. hell i'll challenge anyone to a specific number cake-off.. for some prizes eh... nudge nudge anyone) all in good fun of course. btw, think i got a B on my final... yay. ;)
