Damn Phung, you're reaching way back.
I'm so tired of moving my cacti in and out every winter/summer. I just dumped one of my heavy ass pots onto the ground today taking it out of the garage on a hand truck. On my long list I've thought about building a greenhouse just large enough to hold the cacti.
I was gifted a stack of greenhouse glass many years ago. I'd probably have to supplement it but not with much. I doubt I'd need much more space than about 5x5 or 7x7, something like that. I'd like to build it so that the framing juts into the room by a couple inches. Then in winter, I could just slip rigid insulation panels on the inside, blocking out all the light. I figure with that, and a frost blanket covering them, they'll go dormant, survive the temps and not etiolate. On the rare occasion that it drops into the teens here, I could run some heat bulbs or something.
