85 percent is a bit hard on cakes but they should still fruit IME............but i would suggest some misting on the sides of your terrarium until primordia form........if the humidity still isnt on the level....it should be..........but if NO then you can use some press and seal wrap over the tops of your tubs, under the lids to create an airtight environment..........and make sure to AIR EXCHANGE 3-5 times a day .........good luck

if the cakes look dry you can always dunk them in distilled water in seperate containers in the fridge for 12-20 hrs..........and re DE case and put in terrarium

3" of perlite should be giving you 99% humidity. You might want to calibrate your hygrometer. Do you have standing water in the perlite?

no, there's not any standing water. to wet the perlite, i emptied a sprayer and cleaned it out with iso alcohol, then filled it with filtered / purified water and sprayed the perlite pretty heavily. it could probably hold a little more water though, so i'll try adding some today. i'm also gonna get a different hydrometer from a friend of mine and compare readings.

dude, just use some distilled water or tap water (with a splash of H202 if you're worried), soak the perlite, then strain in a colander........

Weigh your cakes, to now if they need dunking.
And keep humidity at 99% (you can ad an air bubbler to raise hum.)

would injecting sterile water into the cakes be a good idea to rehydrate them?

pins werent visible yet, so i figured the exposure to fruiting conditions + light would hopefully promote pinning
actually they tend to pin just a bit faster if exposed to light but left in the jars
[assuming the holes in the lids are open for gas exchanges]

thanks for the input.

that got me thinking. i have another 4 jars, that are close to 100% colonized. could i move the nearly finished jars to the terrarium, and just leave them inside their respective jar until pins form?

they are half pint jars, with the lid attached, and holes left untaped. they all have a 1cm layer of dry verm on top.

i suppose but they don't need to be inside the terrarium at the point as the jars are self-sufficient.

That hygrometer is not accurate at high humidity levels -it's designed for normal home environment....20-70%

ive seen it two ways
one was like fingers crawling off the casing up the side of the tub slightly
and second is how cutty has it, which usually was from a piece of spawn or colonized sub that was on the wall.

there is even a thread with a cake that has myc sticking out of it, trying to colonize the air itself.

its a good sign, nice and vigourous myc

Do you have cakes sitting directly on that perlite? If so, you need to get them off.
