Unpasturized coir?

I read somewhere on here about using coir as a casing without pasturizing it and I was wondering if any one was doing this. If so are you all having any luck using it this way.

Funny that you bring this up because I just did this for a bulk sub. I just soaked it and added colonized rye spawn and it worked great my bulk is fully colonized. It's just a straight coir sub. I'll try to post a pic if I still have battery power in the camera.

Here's that pic. Make sure you pick the right coir if you do this because some coir is infused with trich to help with plant growth. Your best bet is to get it from the pet store. Good luck!

The coir that I got was from the pet store. I was wondering if there was anything special I need to do other than hydrate it to field capacity.

My sub is about 4 to5 inches thick in a double tub about how deep should I make the casing layer.

.5 to 1.0 inch casing would be fine
i use boiling hot water to hydrate the coir

I just used lukewarm tap water, didn't know that I should use boiling water.

not really boiling, but close-
full hot from my tap, steaming,
proly more like 150*F or so
