A FOAF is growing out a few choice HAW's invitro from cakes. coir/verm/moo-doo/hippie3 additive pack (kelp, coconut, flaxseed, cornmeal, bee pollen) This how he normally grows. The HAW's are huge as usual and do very well invitro. The stems are exploded however. The caps look normal. By exploded, I mean the stems look shredded more and more as they mature, there is little bruising. HAW fruits are averaging 30 grams each wet !!! I thought it might be genetic but each flush from seperate projects has the same trait.

That's the craziest thing I've ever seen. It looks like 3 stems, inner-twined. Were they all like that?

Only the largest 3-4 fruits seem to do this...............some are regular looking. This is happening on diffrent cakes so it's not an anomally

wonder if you could make the same effect by making slits (with a razor) in the stem while its growing ?

So it may be vert. If so it's strain speific; as it only shows like this on the HAW's. Funny, you'd think he'd get the same effect throughout all strains. heh ...........

it could be due to a lack of oxygen and too much carbon dioxide.
maybe that could be the problem?

its not a contam, and i doubt its vert.
i would eat em...

I have this happen all the time... it's def. not strain specific. I attribute it to too much water. I'm guessing that cells in the stem of the mushroom get too ballooned with water and rupture... this happens at enough places in the same spot, the stem splits and continues to grow, splitting even more as it grows... thats just what I came to tho. :) high CO2 might have something to do with it also.

What faht said... whenever I'm overzealous with the water towards the end of the fruiting cycle, this happens to my shrooms. It doesn't affect anything, but is funky lookin'

:)

it can definitely happen more freaquently with certain strains... I agree that it didn't happen very much with the tex... but every once-in-awhile a cake will spit one or two out. nothing to be worried about like soliver said, just happens. :)
