hey hey,
okay, I just made this bin so i'm going to be doin a grow log for it since it is my first attempt at any major bulk grow; and even thats half true but thats a long boring story. lol The bulk sub is Hpoo/Straw spawned with rye and the strain is PE (thanks vinz). I'm having a hell of a time getting straight rye to fruit well atm, so hopefully this will turn out. This is about 10 lbs of Hpoo/straw to 6 qts spawn. there was a little left over that I put into ziplocks with a filter patch to see if I can get that to grow. I split the tub into five sections as you can see to hopefully pull a better overall pinset since I believe smaller skinny subs are more efficient (thats not back by any hard data other my own experience and from what I've seen from others.) The sub is about 3.5 - 4 inches deep and right now, there is foil over the sections with some holes poked in it. then the tub is covered by a press and seal lid that also has some holes poked in it. After this colonizes, I'm going to put a casing on and another tub exactly like the one it is sitting in on top... so it's going to be a sort of mono-double tub... the "oxymoron" tub as I now call it. lol :) any pointers that anyone can give me are more than welcome.. wish me luck! :thumbup: I'll be keeping this updated.

thanks vinz, I'm hoping it's a little better than my cake grows but if not, at least I still have those heh. ;) fixed the strain name in the post too, thanks... It's PE. :)

thanks everyone! :) :love: I'm super excited about this myself. hopefully this will work and keep working and I can start getting some fruits from my rye. Atm I'm having trouble fruiting straight rye (I have some casings of straight rye and verm rez'd rye going right now that have different casing mixes on each) I bought 5 gallons of the damn stuff, sooo... lol and it's absolutely the easiest grain I've ever prepared. /me crosses fingers. as for the sectioning, I did it kinda as a edging effect but more to get the skinnier smaller size... out of all the years that I've been looking at other peeps grow, the best pinsets have been on those skinny bread pan casings. they're deep and skinny, so i'm trying to mimic that. also going to start pasteurizing my casing layers. having trouble with the microwave approach all of a sudden. maybe I just need a new nuker. either way, I think that pasteurizing is a better bet anyhow and why skimp? it's just not worth it in the end. thinking about doing a Medium verm/coir/touch of poo mix for the casing. Any suggestions on a ratio of that mix?

I've got a garbage bag full of poo and one just like it of straw so if it doesn't work, try try again. ;) thanks again everyone.

I'd keep any poo outta the casing mix. There isn't a need for it at all since your substrate is poo, its gonna get that casing and wanna keep eating. I think you'll do great with just a coir/verm mix. I like a 70/30 verm/coir casing mix.

And to comment also on the microwave for casings. I used to do that all the time with my casing and had great results, up to five flushes on average and was happy. Then I started to pasteurize my casing and did start to run into some problems at times. But most likely it was due to my methods at times. I'm a big fan of verm/coir microwaved casings though. Always have worked great for me.

Also, casing isn't really needed, but it can be beneficial depending on the environment.

thanks freaky! :) thats great advice... I was actually going to keep the coir out of it too after thinking about it... I don't have a lot of experience with coir either, so why risk it eh? thinking about only casing half to see what happens. And thanks everyone else too, thats some really great support to have. :love: although, now i'm kind of nervous that it isn't going to do well and everyone is going to be disappointed lol lets hope not eh. :)

Faht, no worries Friend! I've seen so many beautiful flushes from you, I know this will look just as great!

Hows it lookin' now? About 2/3 of the way done? I got to thinking to about the skinny logs you made, that is beneficial also maybe in colonization speed and cutting contams down. I think this because the poo doesn't have so much mass and the spawn can get through the bulk of it easier. You may be on to something with that Faht!
