bottled just a few mintues ago. man.... what a fuckin mess. LOL I ended up ditching the filling rod and just using the hose... couldn't get the damn thing working right. hope it turns out ok... got 36 beers in all. should be done by may 1st. hope none explode. :) filled them about 2 inches from the top. will that effect the time they need to sit and carbonate? does less filled = more time? thanks

I didn't have any foam but there was a nice ring of shit stuck around the top of the brew. does that just mean that it was done fermenting?

Could the filling rod's valve have been getting fouled up?

The bottles will only pop if you added way too much priming sugar. If the beer was still fermenting the conditioning might end up foamy in time, but I don't think you will have it around long enough.

Good to here it tastes good. I bet you will brewing again soon!:amazed:

hey dipole,

how can you tell if the beer was contam'd with bacteria? I've got some stuff on the bottom of the bottles but I don't know if it's bacteria/fungus or just sediment. They're not done bottling yet but I couldn't help but take a look at how they are doing.

thanks

hey fahtster that is most likely just sediment in your bottles
it's been about the length of time for it to start settling out.
as far as contams for me, i've only been able to tell (off flavors) after i've opened the bottle or keg. but as long as all the utensils that touched the wort were sanitized you should be ok
good luck

Hey Fahtster, I agree with safTman on all points. I have only had a couple of contam incidents most were wild yeast, and only one bacterial. The acidity, anerobic nature, and hops don't allow too much room for contam varieties. The wild yeast always produced a thin white film on the surface of the beer. The head retention was dead as a result. The bacterial contam caused the beer to look like rope as it poured out. Very viscous. Unlike the yeast infections, I did not drink the ropey batch. I only had these problems when I was putting ice in the wort to cool it for fermentation. Dirty ice.

It has been 3 weeks hasn't it? Maybe you should crack one open.

May 1st in my opening date.... I'm soooo excited. :) sorry sharkie... didn't mean to hijack yur thread... just didn't see the sense in making two threads about the same thing.

Earlier in the thread there was talk about making cannabeer. I am not sure how effective the THC take up can be. THC is soluble in alcohol. Beer is only 4% by volume, and with so much water I wonder how well the THC would dissolve in the beer.

The MJ would also have to be added at bottling time to give the beer time to dissolve the THC. The MJ would also have to be cooked to get the most out of it. I know someone who had a red wine fortified with MJ. He got a good high, although the wine did not taste good because of the cannabis.

The MJ could be boiled in the wort, but the THC would not dissolve until fermentation made alcohol. The primary fermentation only lasts for a couple of days, that might not be enough time to dissolve the THC.

Has anyone actually ever had cannabeer?:bs:

Great news, I am happy for you. Good job making something tasty the first time around!:eusa_clap

I use to buy my supplies from a place in the San Fransisco Bay area called William's Brewing. They are still around and have an amazing variety of stuff. When I was going to UC Berkeley I used to go there, it was called Wine and the People then. I enjoyed selecting the hops because you could smell them on the spot. Hallertau was so good smelling. They have a website. They also moved out of Berkeley, today the place looks like a gangsterland dump. I think their socialism ran the town into the ground.

So how about I get some buds and make some of Cap's 100 second Honey Oil (thanks for posting that, Cap... good fun!)?

I could then either dissolve it in a minimal amount of everclear and add at some point in the process (I know, everclear in your beer- the horror! But I mean a tiny amount...). Or maybe just toss it in different batches at different times until one got me whacked. Hmmm, it would probably cost me several hundred dollars to try out the possibiites...So, who else wants to try this? (someone growing herb, maybe? C'mon now, someone out there is growing and brewing, so take one for the team and give it a go!)

No, but I would suggest "dry hopping" your canabis in the secondary.

Will an aqueous solution harm the THC content?? Seems like it would take an extraordinary amount of canabis to produce a noticible effect. How about just doing like 1 750ml bottle's worth to try it out. That way you're not losing as much bud on a project that may or may not pan out.

The dry hopping way could work if the weed can stay in the secondary fermenter for some amount of time. The weed in one way or another will have to be boiled to convert the THCA for potency. The boiled weed can then be put in the secondary. I don't know how much weed you would call a hits worth, I am thinking 0.2-0.4 grams. A 5 gallon batch will yield 51 bottles of beer. That would require 10 to 20 grams of weed. Of course the THCA has to be fully converted and the resulting THC must be fully dissolved into the beer.

A one gallon test run is a good idea. It is best to have 2 fermenters of the correct size to make the process work the best.

Adding the THC in as everclear would work, I don't know if the beer will taste good. The beer yeast is not very robust and high alcohol fermentations usually come you tasting really bad.

One other thing, the WinBrew program has my real name in it. Is this a problem Hippie?

Any updates on this winbrew program?

You are the first person to respond to the offer. I can go through the program and Mycotopia the thing if there is any interest. I need to find out from Hippie if there is a home for it and how to upload the sucker.
