Mushroom spores travel through space!

Actually, I'm pretty sure I heard Paul Stamets say this was quite possible in one of the vids I have of him at a conference in Amsterdam.

These aren't about mushies, but about meth. I heard these when I was a teenager. I still don't know if they're true or not, but they do sound silly. "If you smoke meth off of tin foil, you'll get alzheimers" and "If you take a hit of meth and hold it in, it will crystalize your lungs. And then if you get punched in the chest, your lungs will shatter."

'mushroom spores can grow in your brain and kill you'

ummmm i vaguely remember seeing a video of some guy who had his face eaten by some kind of mold/fungus. i think it was here. anyone remember where that's at? it was pretty sick. the guy's wife stayed with him for a while tho i think. at least until he tried the "prosthetic face" route. its called a mask, duh.

keep em comin :)
I remember a guy saying he found caps the size of dinner plates. A dinner plate is 10 inches in diameter. I don't think anyone has even grown em that big...

The biggest mushroom I have ever found was growing on horse manure in a cypress bog behind a woman's barn. It weighed 250 grams wet. Despite its weight, the cap was no more than 6 inches across.

That's not very far fetched if you are severely immunocompromised. See http://botit.botany....gi/feb2000.html . I have also found a report of an AIDS patient infected with Coprinus cenereus. I would guess that if such mycoses progress enough they could easily end up in the CNS. All of this would be extremely rare, of course, and not a concern for the immunocompetent.

That was probably not any sort of a mushroom. Infections with "mushrooms" are possible, however (though very rare).

IIRC, he was merely quoting someone else. The goofy mycelia as neural network idea is all his own, however. I suppose he's entitled.

the rumor of, "the stinkier, the better." does hold true to a degree, ime.

there are certain strains that have this extra-pungeunt bite to them...i almost want to compare it to a dry aged cheese of some sort...mixed with cow shit... lol... i dont know, just thought id mention this one as its a real popular load of bullshit (pun intended ;)) for the most part, but there are rare exceptions.... im told PE is one of these strains, and i cant wait to get crackin on them soon!

"The gold shit makes it more potent." ....

"If you only eat the caps, you won't have a bad trip. The stems give you the bad trips."

Where do people come up with this shit, anyway?

I forget his name, but he had a mucor infection. It's some kind of mold that grows on bread in the south. Apparently he was smelling some moldy bread, and pretty much fucked his day up.

"the magic in mushrooms gets in your spine, so they can always tell you've done them with a spinal tap...also, since it's in your spine, if you crack your back you will have a flashback"

Of course, I've heard the exact same thing for LSD, Ecstasy, etc...

"You're getting high because you're eating poison, so if you take too much you'll die"

"If you find a mushroom growing in the woods, pick it up and scratch it, if the scratch turns blue/purple, it's safe to eat"

"The only place to get mushroom spores are out of the back of a high times magazine"

"If you get busted by the cops in this state with even a single 'shroom on you it's an automatic felony"

"Mushrooms hit you twice as hard if you drink a bunch of orange juice with them"

"Fresh ones are stronger than dry ones"

"You can't grow 'shrooms in tupperware! They'll absorb the plastic and die! The only way to grow them is in a glass fish tank"

"You need to take, like, organic chem classes to be able to grow mushrooms"

"It's better to freeze mushrooms when they are freshly picked and still moist"

"You can't make tea with those, the heat will kill the magic!"

"If you chew them you'll automatically throw up"

"It costs hundreds of dollars worth of stuff to grow mushrooms"

I think that my favorite fallacy is that mushrooms can be grown hydroponicly. One kid at a festival told us he grew mushrooms in pure water, all the time. Of course he did not have any of those.

I once heard some preppy chick that said that you can only feel the effect of mushrooms while your smoking weed at the same time. Frustrating..

i was taught by some people that:

"you can trip by inhaling shroom dust (shake)"

"if you breathe in spores, you risk growing mushrooms in your nose and brain"

"eating magic mushrooms more than once a month makes you crazy"

"the black caps are more potent" (spores)

the bigger the better philosophy

mushrooms are extra terrestial beings from another world that have co-adapted to human consciousness.

we evolved from mushrooms, maybe mckenna's right

hmmm I thought that the standard PF tek was technically a passive hydroponic cultivation method??? Or does this only apply when there is nutrients IN the water/ or if it's plants?
It uses verm to hold moisture for the myc to draw on.... Isn't this in line with the definition of hydroponics?

Lol, a stretch maybe?
