FOAF was considering something similar. Know a good source for straw? I live in an urban area, so not a lot of farm supply stores, etc.

lowes carrys bails of straw for incredibly cheap. i opted to go to michaels (craft store) and get a small bail of straw to not mess up the inside of my ride :pirate:

though the project bails from michaels are like $5.. it's incredibly compressed, and i could easily have made 30 straw bags with it.

an update - i mutilated that one log picking things, kinda rough housed it and it's feeling pretty cork-like. contemplating dunking with a brief bleach dip but there's a bunch of divits in the log, could end up being a waste of effort / space to try and push any more out of it. 150 wet g's is satisfactory though - only used a total of a pint of cake to spawn - kinda like getting most of a cakes potential out all in one bang and then some - one upcoming log is going to be absolutely nuts come harvest (i predict tomorrow am)

i'll have a follow up shot on the one i speak of momentarily.

also going to throw polyfil on the shopping list - as well as these filter patches seem to have worked, i think polyfil will be less of a hassel.

thanks for reading :)

hour, do you get multiple flushes off those bags, or are they pretty much a one flush deal?

you can dunk straw for additional flushes -
but without a dunk or a casing to mist
then it's pretty much a one-shot deal.

well..'hooked on this for a bit.

200 wet. 2 hpints made this log.

dunno if last post detailed but 2 2.5gal 'sandbags' done up with straw and 4 hp's / 3 hp's per.. tons of spawn, tons of straw, tons of verticle grow potential. we shall see.

I know the bags have filter patches, but are you doing anything for air exchange, ie. got a fan going on them or anything?

Nope - they get popped open for 20 seconds a day for a photo shoot but no physical fanning done, they're in a cabinent with no fan inside - it's not air tight but it's certainly not free flowing.

another 200 wet just ganked off the log that only produced in the corner! sure didn't see that coming.

all 3 bags have been robbed of goods and consolodated over the past 3 days to one giant 2.5g freezer bag. they're still trucking in there and humidifying the bag with no dunking - contams expected soon, but they're gettin chucked under a bush or something soon.

all smiles here. smashed all personal records, TOTAL prep time to give whatever this comes to dry (well over 1.5 zips im thinking including miniscule pins and junk).. 5.5 cakes total invested.. and just a few ziplocs of straw.. 45 minutes of time investment. thats it.

Hour, your mushies are Fantastic!!!!!

Thanks for running with an idea I came up with trying to simplify straw, without having to invest a lot of time or spawn or space.
You've done an awesome job of making it even better and improving the way I did it. The invitro method with the filter patch is working great!

sorry for not giving credit, i was trying to remember the name of the person that inspired this, but wasn't it freakacino or something? I contemplated typing that in an earlier post but neglected to due to fear of misspelling.

btw, there was some woman on here i believe that gave me a syringe of hawaiians wayyy back in the day, like 2001.. looking to extend a thanks to her just because - that was wayyy in the wayyback of mycotopia days though.

bk :)

Hell I don't care about credit, just glad to know I posted something somebody used and made better :)

I changed my board name, long story to that.

And the Topia has always had good, kind, giving, members, thats what makes it so great! I too have given and gotten in return so many good fungus prints/syringes. So I too thank everyone here for their kind and generous ways :)
