I had put some old spawn in the ground with some straw a few weeks ago, but it's been too cold at night, I guess, for them to fruit.

I'd kept a plastic sheet over it to keep the moisture down. Then yesterday when I checked on it, there were pins...there was also a small spot of trich....

I dug into the mold a bit to see if it went deeper, but it looked to only be on the surface so I just dug it out.

Being as how the humidity isn't high enough for cubes just yet, I simply took half of a double tub and placed it on top....this morning there was plenty of condensation on the tub, so it should work fine!

A damn slug found its' way inside and devoured a couple already:evil:

heh this is why you dont put your spent subs in the trash. LOL

good job man, so long as you keep that fed youll have a good patch when it's just right outdoors.

honestly i wouldn't worry to much about the trichoderma, but, once it's green, it's all throughout the mycelial network, only reason you saw it, is because that's where it spored out, pluck it out i guess, but it should die out soon, being outdoors.

VERY NICE PINS! plz update with fruit pics.

No, you're right about that...but it's no big deal where it is.

I'm curious if they'll look more like indoor fruits or outdoor?

No, I think outdoor grown fruits have a different appearance than indoor...

They tend to have much larger caps and much shorter stems, at least from what I've seen regardless of "strain". I assume it's due to the air exchange, which is obviously a non-issue outside.

The outdoor cubes I've dealt with have also dried out to solid rocks. You could knock them together and hear them click...

this i agree with, yes they are a bit more stout, and healthy looking, but they are still b+, and will look like b+, on that matter, other then a very few strains, they all look exactly the same. My f+ pins look just like that... only larger.

I heard or read somewhere that shiitake growers have successfully used perlite on the ground to keep snails at bay.

diatomaceous earth ?
actually a saucer half-full of beer is a great slug trap.

Doobie Doo also said once to try moth balls, they worked well for me after taking his advice.

Yeah, I went back the next day and picked up about 7 pin heads...

Wretched slugs decapitated almost all of them. Also there was more trich growing under the tub...yet if I took it off, they'd dry out.

Yesterday it got very hot and humid so i did take the tub off, but this flush is screwed...

But moth balls and beer! I will certainly remember this...thanks for the ideas
