Procedure was to shut down all drafts in room, oust room, take shower, wear mask and gloves, wipe work area and work materials with alcohol, run flow hood, innoc and parafilm seal agar plate, and store at 70F.

got it at a resale shop for a dollar, best buck I ever spent!

Can you reccomend any ai units small enough for a two tier greeenhouse?
The Ecoquest Fresh Air is an awesome unit. Depending on air flow it can effectively do 3000sq ft with no useless filters to waste money on. RCI technology was designed by NASA to help plants grow on the space station by turning ethylene gas into CO2. Despite the negative crap on ripoffreport.com by failed dealers (Ecoquest is an mlm but RGF invented RCI and sold it to EQ)you have to try it to actually experience what clean air smells like in your house. As for the bacteria, virus, and mold claims, they were proven by KSU and the University of cincinatti. RGF Environmental makes PHI probes that go into air systems and do the same thing. I like RCI better cuz it has more exposure surface and works faster. Radiant Catalytic Ionization and Photo Hydro Ionization are both types of a photo-plasma type photo-catalytic oxidation systems but any PCO should work well....RCI is the best so far. A PCO uses Bacteriacidal UV (254nm) on a Titainium Dioxide matrix to creat friendly oxidisers. Photo plasma uses 100nm-300nm broad spectrum bacteriacidal light (RGF makes the light for Ecoquest too, it is the only light of its kind and is good for 25k hrs though it will still light up for a yr or so more.) PHI and RCI have Titainium dioxide, copper, silver and rhodium. They other elements speed up the reactions...it's just better.

I have been experimenting mixing jars in the presence of RCI and ozone with no PC or boiling or microwave and it is taking some works since some products come contaminated but I have had some promising successes. Save your money and don't buy a filter. Active air technologies are the only real solution.

ya gotta love perfectionists.
but the simple truth is that
sometimes good enough is
good enough.
i'm sure those systems are great
but we've tested the cheap little $80 ionizer from aspemaire extensively
and for our purposes it works pretty damn well.
now if you prefer to spend 3-10 times as much
hey, it's good for the economy!
but please don't insist that your way is the only way
as it just ain't factual.
a person can get by with less .

:eusa_boohWell I am talking the full spectrum of good IAQ. Anything with a filter will only catch .03microns or larger. Since submicron particles are what make you sick...I would save the $80. You get what you pay for. If it works great for spores in a bathroom size room that's cool....

SHC thanx for all the science info...never-the-less apparently flow hoods which are HEPA seem to have been working for yesrs; so I guess the "submicron particles that make you sick", must be something we are unfamiliar with--what are they?

ah, your area of expertise is mold removal from houses,
all well and good but not the same as doing agar work or G2G .
despite what you said
i know for a fact
the $80 unit works well
for our purposes
and can easily enough prove
that fact
with links to the experiments still
preserved in our archives .
so anyone who wants to fork out
several hundred dollars more they need to
just because you say so-
well, that's on them.
i don't sell ionizers .
but it's a waste of good money, imo .
just more than is needed,
kinda like having solid gold agar dishes.
nice,
but who really needs it ?

I am actually thinking of the Alen 350s, not so much for our hobby, but the frickin allergies my family seems to suffer from in this God forsaken part of the country. From what I have read, the Alen 350s do a decent job for a decent price. I'm thinking of getting two with UV and two without for treating the entire house.
As for this hobby, I will use my poor man's flow hood, and ionizer, until when and if I hit the lottery, at which point I will build a class 100 clean room with this bad boy http://www.sylvane.c...anroom-h13.html!

Hippie, you are right it is a luxury and I do sell them if people ask, I don't market them though other than in conversations like this...which has yet to get me a sale so I hardly consider it advertising. I just like the fact that it kills the spores, viruses, and bacteria instead of just catching them.
As for you who build your own stuff never put a UV light near a filter or it will eat it/destroy it.
For every test that says HEPA works, 2 say it isn't an effective IAQ solution by itself.....now with a PCO and an ionizer it is prime....but expensive. I spent $2000 on my 4 Fresh Airs and I don't need 4 but I leave them on mold jobs fdays after. They are all out right now and it is driving me nuts cuz I can smell the laundry, something I had forgotten actually smelled since RCI

UV by itself only works on direct exposure to surfaces and doesn't do anything to the air unles there is an exposed TiO2 Matrix along with it. A Flow hood has a shitload of suction that is pulling the air from your project right?
incorrect it blows
