Snapped a few pics of my slow growing active cacti collection (rooted and potted) The spiny are T. Pachanoi and I dont remember what the little round one is(any ideas?) The big cutting has a couple pups:teeth:

One looks to be elongated(forgot terminology) may have to cut her off and callous over then repot.

Cute lil' pup there. They do all look really green. The word you were looking for is etiolation.

Und der one on da right looks like a Juul's Giant! They seem to etiolate easily, I'd leave it be, maybe that is just how they grow.

yeah they do. i just cut mine last month. it was never the fattest cactus(2 1/2 - 3" diameter) but, the last years growth was horrible. the tip was down to 1 1/4". i'm imagining long, skinny pups but, i'll have to wait and see.

Very nice, and the little round slow growing one is a terscheckii for sure.

Gotta love the pups that summer brings. The best way to avoid etiolation is to put your cactus in a dark cool place when the temps get around 40f at night. I keep mine in the dark all winter and I dont even water them once. It will keep your specimen cacti very even and uniform. Leaving them in a window is a bad idea over the winter. I also set them all outdoors during the spring and summer months, which really boosts their growth.

My spiny pachanoi is growing its third stalk, it is the only one that I have that grows multiple stalks from the soil line.

Nice collection Chip..I'm amazed with the speedy growth of the new pups on my Pedro cuttings..

What would happen if i put my rooted cuttings under a Halide light over the winter, would they still go dormant..?

So just throw em in a closet or something?
If lights and heat mats are availiable, do you still prefer a complete hibernation for the guys? -or should i keep them under a simulation of their prefered temps/ light cycles?

If you want to go through the expense of running hps or mh all winter for them, then that is acceptable. The no no is putting them in a window, or place where they get some sun and warmth.

I recommend full dormancy with cool temps and no lights. I use a pantry for my specimen stuff. Nothing uglier than etiolation, click the link.
