That is interesting. I can believe that. I read somewhere, I think, that there are tons of psychoactive alkaloids/chemicals in cactus. If someone had a fractional distillation apparatus that operated under vacuum they could try all the fractions and see which did what. Only problem would be knowing which fraction is what.
i have a pretty recent study that was done on ariocarpus and turbinicarpus cactus that is really interesting. in goes in depth on "magical/medicinal" properties and lists the alkaloid makeups. i'll see if i can dig it out.
a. fissuratus really struck me. it contains no mescaline, but is considered to be 2-3 times stronger than peyote by those that have used it.
