I had about 1/4 of a jar of leftover popcorn from a previous project. It was just sitting on a shelf in the basement for a couple of weeks.
I went to look for it and this is what I found. It was pinning invitro!
I wanted to use this as spawn but now I don't know if I should just let it grow or spoon it out now.
Can I still use it as spawn if it has already been fruited?
I know that a 1/4 jar isn't much but I have a sister jar full as well. It would have been just enough for what I had in mind. ;)

This thing has a lot of little knots and pins. Don't know if you can really see them in the pics.

Personally if thier already fruiting invitro I'd leave em alone. After the first flush I'm sure you could dunk it and spawn it..Im not sure if dunking then spawning would work but I dont see why not.

I've used fruiting jars of spawn before, just try to pick em real clean before using, that's all I ever did... They worked fine, too.

i say let them go. looks like a nice lil cluster going there. after you pick em, then just dunk, crumble it up and use for spawn. itll serve its purpose imho

i agree. mycelium may be a little weaker after a flush, but since you are using fresh spawn too i'm sure every thing will recover nicely.

Yea, I'd let these fruits go to maturity then I would pick em, eat em, and use the remainder as spawn.

Here is the jar, a couple of days later. This is how they look now.
The veil on the larger one is starting to break, the others are little behind.
I'm wondering how I am going to get them out. :p

Just bang the jar against a tire to break it all up, then pour it out. Another alternative is to dig them out with a fork. You don't want to use it for spawn afterwards. For that, you want young, fast growing mycelium.

i'd do as rodg' suggest,
but once it's picked clean
i'd mix with damp coir to form a large 'cake-casing'
and see if it might just flush again

I mixed the leftovers with an equal part of my poo/coir/verm/coffee mix.
This is what it looks like now.

After the first flush and after the subsequent dunk, what then? More verm for a double-casing? No verm and just straight back into the jar? Verm on the bottom? The archives were vague on this.

Thanks!

i dont know much about it as far as tossing back in the jar, but i know for the chronic tek, you can double end case to help it along.

You could add fresh sterilized verm, moistened, but I don't and my invitros do just fine with only a dunk, no casing... Your decision...

I usually wash the verm off before
dunking then grow invitro.

If not, the verm layer is the only place
I get cobweb, though not often.

I just put them back in the jar, and for one reason or another they never contam. No added verm, no dunk, no nothing.
