as you probably have seen, I've been posting again... I took a break and said I wouldn't be on the OMC anymore, but I'll be god damned if I can stay away... :) So the last bulk grow that I did in bins went alright... http://mycotopia.net...-does-bulk.html
I have since done quite a few bulk grows in bags for some testing and have ditched the sectioning... it might hold some water but I wouldn't build a dam with it. My tests went well after figuring some stuff out and decided to do another large bin grow. :) This is in homage to the Hipster doofus himself hehe... These are SA's... I actually have three of these tubs going but heres the best looking one right now.. the other two are a little behind and I'm doin some more casing experiments on them so I'll just show you this one for now. I'm kind of in a hurry, have to go to work soon so for now I'll just post the pix and some additional info on the source of the isolate..

this isolate is the same exact isolate as in this thread... notice the date on the post.. http://mycotopia.net...714-post32.html
thats almost a year ago... I have not touch the isolate since then... it sat DRY in one of my faht jars for all that time. I simply pulled it out of a drawer and extracted the myc and inoculated rye jars.. pretty cool huh? ok, thats it for now. I'll elaborate on my casing experiments after work tonight.. enjoy!

no casing...
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1190270078
with casing but applied before knots/first seen pin...
http://mycotopia.net...=1&d=1190270078
ok.. so I learned a long time ago (at least in my experience) that if I wanted a good solid pin set, I needed to apply the casing layer right when the first small pin appeared directly after knotting starts.. thats what I did here with these TEX bins... http://mycotopia.net...ts-mo-tubs.html I cased that last pic (in this post) before knotting started and since I used a 70/30 verm/coir mix.. the myc. continued colonizing the casing layer, matting it somewhat. You can see that happening on the edges of the casing layer.. there isn't many pockets for pins to develop in... now the noncased bins' top layer (being rough Hpoo/straw) had pockets that the pins formed in and grew out of.. I firmly believe that (and my previous bag grows showed also) if I would have waited until the substrate started knotting and I saw the first pin, I would have gotten the results that I did in that first bin that I posted.. But I'm not stressin it at all.. what I didn't get this first flush, I'll pull out of the second and third.. I also don't like how the fruits grow all which ways with uncased subs... the light reflects off the white shiny uncased surface, throwing the growth off the upward path.. not that big of a deal except for the aesthetics of it. But of course this is all theory... you know me, I like to over think things and apply some kind of science to it. lol :horse: I know what I'll be doing tho. ;) enjoy!

There may be something to your theory, bout late casing..Have noticed similar effects..
The only negative is , the extra time waiting to case, allows for more drying of the Sub.[pretty minor really]
The sudden stimulation from the moist casing did seam to kick things up a notch though.
Great lookin trays BTW...

and then how long did you wait for knots/first pin
then how long did it take the myc to get into the casing OR how long til you saw pins starting to pop through the casing
wow fahtster, this is some GREAT info
you are an inspiration to us all!!!
.. okay maybe not all of us, but still
Thanks for your experience!!
