It depends on the pc. A well built pc will be fine. AA's or any other type of good cast pc's would proly crack if it got too hot.

You wouldn't if it's cracked. You'll know when you go to use it next time if it's f'd! Some get hot as hell and warp too. What's the brand of pc and the size?

Is there steam comming from places that they shouldn't be? If not, I wouldn't worry. If it was cracked it would blow steam outa crack while it was building up to 15psi. If it hits 15 psi the same way it did before, don't worry.

the burner is red hot and the pc has lots of water in it now, but the hissing has stoped so perhaps the expansion of the metal has closed the crack, how dangerous is this? its going right now, so post soon if its dangerous.

The hissing is proly comming from in between the lid and the canister right? It's warped then. It's not going to blow up by any means. It'll just leak a bit. It will proly fix itself after time and use.

it is probably better to not tempt fate on this one, I know it sucks but check out a flea market or some yard sales for a new one

Do not use if it's cracked anywhere. I'm sorry. You can get hurt. Let it cool and inspect it well. But i'm sure it's screwed if there was water leaking from the bottom. High pressure will expand the crack.

A cracked PC is a bomb waiting to go off. You need to toss that one out and never use it again. Tough break. I have gone three hours before with less than an inch of water in the PC. It sounds like you left the stove on high and let the weight rattle the entire time. That will run a PC dry.
