Hmm, I've got a container full of 80% rice protein. I wonder if that would do the trick.

i found the caapi-only brew made me so nauseous
that i had to lie down in darkness
after only 30mins,
and that was at 30g.
however, no caapi-nausea was felt with the brew proper,
containing 35g caapi/35g viridis,
at any stage up to 1.5hrs,
after which point my mind was somewhat distracted to consider such things =)
so, from my own limited experiences, i would say
don't let your 50g caapi-only brew put you off from taking the plunge.
with aya itself you should just need approx. half that amount,
as phalanx has already pointed out,
which will greatly minimize the effects you have already felt.

any woody plant, including vines like caapi, are quite high in tannins.
even foliage [leaves] contains quite a bit.
every decent grocer stocks nonfat dry powdered milk,
this 'tek' is akin to the british habit of adding a bit of milk to tea
or cream to coffee, just improves the flavor enough to hide the bitterness.

sorry to hear about the persistent sick feeling llama!

I does sound like you got something from the experience though, and hopefully it was worth it.

Just out of interest, why did you try a caapi only brew before trying one with a dmt containing plant?

Aya vs. my digestive system

I'd bet on Aya every time:)

I too have had tremendous nausea every time I have brewed up some Aya.
Many of my attempts have failed simply because I couldn't hold it down long enough.
Even if I did, it would get me the other way:)

It's going to be a while before I try this again, though I definitely plan to.

I feel you on that one Llama!
It's been darn near a year since my last attempt and still even the thought shivers my spine.
That last one was rough.

The Jimmy Wieskopf #67 that interview was probably the most informative yaje article I have ever read. I like the cross culture history between the Columbian, Peruvians and Brazilians. The city vs jungle was interesting on the ritual aspect. I really liked the way he explained things.

Good Stuff wanted to thank you for turning me on the the Shamans Drum.
Hopefully you come around more.

Peace...

Enough people told me that I'd probably want to get to know caapi alone before trying an admixture. The vine alone seems to provide a venue for healing and exploration that is different than if another plant was included. In retrospect, this seems like a good idea, as the power of any plant can take one by surprise, and I'm in no hurry to blow my mind. However, as a couple people have noted, "complete" brews apparently can present with less nausea then with caapi alone.

I wish I had my vine-only and rue-only trips a long time ago. They are educational. The downside of having them as a first aya experience is that you may get so sick for apparently so little gain that it puts you off further experimentation. Hang in there llama!

The article is cool. Jimmy Weiskopf wrote a book called "The New purgatory". It is available in spanish but not in english until June 30th.

Shaman's Drum is some good stuff.
I just looked over and saw one a while back on the rack at a whole food store.
I had to get it.
#66 it was.
Good stuff.

pH adjusted water (2cc 30% HCl per 500 ml water)

i'm 'bout to give the hcl aya a go, but the figures on acidifying never satisfied me. most people were going by the 10-20 drops per 250ml suggested in the origional thread at ayahuasca.com. problem is the person who said that was using one of those crappy garden ph testers, and knew not what the hell he was talking about! now, i don't have a nice tester or ph paper (well, i got the wrong kind. i found some pink stuff, but i think it's for the other side of the ph scale) so i did some stoner math:

muriatic acid is usually 20* baume or about 32% (assumed to be by weight)
this corresponds to a molarity of around 10M
assuming complete dissociation .0001M HCl has a ph of 4

so that means it would only take .01cc per liter of dH2O?
feel free to show me where i went wrong. (i'll even let you point and laugh)

2 cc of 30% hcl in only 500 ml of Dh2o
does sound awful strong, to me.
but i'd have to dig out the chem books to do the math,
and i'm too lazy as i use lemon juice anyway.
lol

well ... there's no red cabbage in the fridge, so i guess
(my cat just fell off the window ledge - funny as hell!)
anyway, i'm just gonn go with a couple cc's per liter.
i'll bet this is the reason the HCl extraction works soo well.
ph has got to be like 2.
it doesn't really matter anyways if i evap. completely, right?

I will tell him this next time I talk to him.......

He is hard at work on his site. He is trying to build a site specializing in the use of entheogens and spirituality. I think he wishes to leave the technical "grow" work to 'topia and concentrate on the "spiritual/healing" aspects of the plants and fungi. "Tehuti Roo" has sort of retired from here. He is concentrating on "healing" others, and spreading the word.... I understand he helped "cure" a few people using the brew the past year. It is the vine that cures. It allows the person to cure themselves. These people where cured of severe depression due to past mental trauma and physical/sexual abuse. In fact the cures worked too well, word got out and he is laying low.

Check out the winter issue, there is much good information on Tantrik shamanism, and buddhism. Also known as "Bon". Lots of good networking info in this mag for people in the UK.
