the casing wasn't 100% colonized. did this in one day. gonna do it the old fashioned way and use a tray and case it that way.

thats a pic of it. looks like light green mold. it was tossed. the substrate broke up as well so it must have penetrated. before the casing. everything looked excellent. well, going to have this bin up and running 100% before anything is birthed this time.

ok. the new spawn of rdu has been spawned. the method used was the casing at spawning method. but the substrate itself was used as the casing.

this consited of 50/50 ozark poo to coir only. done in two seedling flats.

I have 2 shoeboxes of Pan Rdu still colonizing a bulk for 2 weeks!:puke: I think I waited too long and the myc went toward the end of the Dikaryotic phase (it was probaly hyphenating on wbs) :(. Then once I spawned it gave me the middle finger

Needless to say I feel your pain brother

but the substrate itself was used as the casing.

Interesting experiment, I recall Golly stating that he likes to 'spike' his Pan casings with some poo or castings. It was said that it helps pinset. Im curious to see what 50% poo will do. Pans do fruit directly from poo, with no casing in the wild.

Cheers good buddy,

the two trays are about 80% colonized on this substrate casing layer so far. chamber has been tested and is at 98% rh.

yeah so maybe we shall be leaving out the casing layer after next experiment.

tray #2. the other tray is 80% this one is almost ready to birth. the chamber is now at 99% rh. so success finally. everything tested before anything went in. best way to do it. leads to problems if you go into it blind sided lol.

well these trays were birthed yesterday and opened this morning to check and completely covered in a light green mold similar to before. everything looked great and there were air tubes in the chambers. foaf gives up on this. this thread is closed. what a waste of time. going to have to mess with this again later.

so this thread will be closed until everything is going again. this is so irritating.

further inspection has shown that the substrate was contaminated underneath the casing layer. so this may be the problem. the growth in the substrate was solid and held together well, just one little patch and it caused trouble. grrrr...lol

well this took forever, but finally got around to getting these things spawned again with hips supercake formula. 3 days full colonization. now time to case these tommorow. this time it is 1:1:1 horse poo/verm/coir with

a master was kept on popcorn grain for 6 months. this was just spawned to wbs quarts. it was going well until the shake and the grain looked sad. mycelia didn't look good at all. it appeared the mycelia wasn't as fluffy as it was before and half the quarts were tossed out even though they smelled nice an pany. well 4 quarts were salvaged and now we have some nice growth..despite the horrible growth in quart jar wbs spawn. it still grew out nicely on the above mix.

lets see what happens. take it as a grain of salt but this time fanning will be done lol....

didn't have time for the last round, hopefully pay more attention this time..

lol, cased today. some of the wbs was sprouting...lol...

gonna spawn another tub of this tonight.

cased with 70/30 coir to fine verm. its all available. not too thrilled about this fine verm.

the supercake formula was added just by eye. probably like 1/2 cup. with a tablespoon of nutrtional yeast per recipe by accident. should be 1 teaspoon. but it grew out very fast. it was spawned wednesday evening and this is saturday after nooon growth of what you see above.

will get a pic up of how crappy the mycelia looks on grain. the first growth 7 months ago was very fluffy white like how this bulk sub looks above. but once the jars were shaken this round, the mycelia didn't recover. it was fine when it was g2ged to the grain from that popcorn master. unfortunately, a few jars were tossed out bc it was thought they were not growing. well, appears they are. foaf wasn't expecting this so its a nice surprise.

here are two shots of the mycelia. these are two of the better looking jars. the others looked like they were hardly recolonizing the grain. but, it grew like above even despite the mycelia looking like this. all previous growth for this mycelia has been very fluffy white like the above substrate.

this is why two jars were tossed out. although they were probably fine.

yeah you should see it without the flash. tossed two jars that looked like that, they smelled really good so kept two of them to test it. and spawned those two. that is the above tub that was spawned. most likely bc its 7 months old spawn... lol.

barely see it in that 2nd jar, weird

damn, cobweb on the casing. it was surrounding all the sprouts from the grain. too bad. hosed down with h202 but looks like its gonna tank. probably going to try the 2nd bin no casing.

ok, the 2nd tub was cased today. it was cased with pure coir. fine verm is causing problems. and the casing was sterilized. never had good luck pasteurizing a casing and these last few times with rdu have taught me to not try and fix what isn't broken lol

anyway, this tub had sprouts as well. 3 were picked. then the tub was cased. hopefully this time it will colonize and not contam. the substrate looked super healthy this morn. lets hope for the best. so far, man this rdu has been a headache. haven't ever had this much trouble with pans.

well contams all over this casing again. this time sterilized. hell did another tub cased with cubensis just like this, its fine colonizing 100 percent. will most likely call this last time and start over from spores again. this old spawn is taking well to the casings. but it also contaminated the first few times when the spawn was fresh as well. hmm...too bad.
