I haven't tried straw yet...not sure how to get it where I am.
Could I add something else, like sterilized wbs?

Here are the three bags presently. I've got pins on the 6L popcorn bag now! Tonight I'll pick the large mature one from the 5L, and reclose the bag. I think the harvests will be good!

Would dunking, crumbling and reloading the bag without extras be better than not crumbling?

Here's a couple pics of the sexy 5L as of now. I decided not to open & partly harvest the bag...I'll do it all at once, probably in a day or two from what I see now. Next pic will be harvest time!

I've just mixed up a 4.5L with wbs again, and will be doing three 6L bags of wbs soon with the spawn method:2 jars colonized wbs, 6 jars PC'd wbs, and an equalling volume of PC'd wetted verm & coir.

If spawning like this works well, the only Q left is how many flushes I can get this way.

no, only straw or manures added at such late date,
no grains.

Now my curiousity with this method will be regarding how it withstands contamination post-harvest. I'll be as clean as possible, but I expect random deaths with trich. If I get a second flush before that I'll be, well, happy.

I have completed my first spawning oven bag procedure, a 6.2L volume.

While I can fit 14 500ml jars and the rest of the stuff in the glovebox I found it is actually a two-step glovebox procedure(for my box size), emptying 8 jars and then 6 into the oven bag. The bag is mixed after the procedure, outside the glovebox.

That's 2 500's of colonized wbs, worth 400ml each. 6 of PC'd wbs, 400ml each. 1 of PC'd coir 500ml, and 5 500's of wet PC'd verm, for a total volume of 6.2 L. The other, open air mixes with all-colonized wbs pinned in a week; I'm guessing this will take a week or two longer..?

I made one mistake; I didn't PC the modified oven bag prior to using. It was made under clean conditions and put away, so I don't think the risk is big. I'll be mixing another bag or two of this in a couple days, and will PC those bags prior to.

Any thoughts?

Ohio Gazie Mas! I have harvested and rebagged my 4L & 5L wbs bags. The 6L popcorn bag caught trich after just a couple mushrooms reached maturity, so it's dead. I've also mixed a 3.6L bag of brf.

It turns out that I have to destroy the bag to get the mass out intact. On the 5L a couple guys burst out below the patch! I've salvaged the patch without duct tape. I used 200ml bleach to 14L tapwater in a big bucket to dunk 10hrs in, and held the masses under with a plate and 5lb weight. After dunking, I rinsed the masses and let them drain a few minutes. Before re-insertion to new PC'd bags I added 700ml dry PC'd verm to the 5L bag and 500ml to the 4L, to soak up excess moisture on the bottom. The masses had dried up a little right under the patch prior to harvest; it should balance out.

It does seem like a big flaw to have to cut open the bag to get the mass out safely, but it's only $1.50 per bag...not much for a big harvest!
I've attatched pics of the 5L right at harvest.

I'm curious as to how the brf will do compared to wbs. Better yes, with more butrients? We'll soon see.

I'm keeping them coming, worry not! At the moment there's a lot of condensation inside the post-dunk bags...it'll be interesting to see if they get to the second flush.

Next in line will be the 3.6L brf bag...I expect that'll do well. In the meantime I'll be spawning a bunch of wbs to use for more bags. I'll do more of those before making more spawning-in-the-bag bags, until the spawners give results.

Does anyone else find spawning brf a pain in the ass? I tried a shredder, but it wasn't suitable - I'll try to find a better one. That left me scaping the cakes up with a fork. I find spawning wbs & popcorn very easy, but brf...I hope it was worth the near-hour in the glovebox!

Afternoon! I now have pins on my spawned wbs/verm/coir oven bag! In 10 days I tell you!! TEN DAYS! The non-spawning bags took 7~8, so this is a good indication that using 2 jars colonized wbs with 6 PC'd jars wbs is more time-efficient than using 8 colonized jars, when you add in 1~2 weeks to spawn & colonize to the extra jars, plus glovebox time.

As for bad news, the post-flush bags have died. I don't see a good way of avoiding exposing the substrate to trich-laden air with dunking. I could try harvesting within a glovebox & breaking up the mass a little in the process...skip bleach dunking entirely...without ordering some Banrot I don't see another way for this method. I'm open to suggestions people!

I decided to use my 3.6L brf bag to make 20 pf-style jars instead of waiting for it to flush and running into the same problems as the post-flush masses. I'll repeat this process and make some 500ml invitro jars.

So in conclusion, two 500ml wbs jars now equal 6L of single-flush growing mass. I'll see how much further I can get this to go!
