Some people say after a PF style half pint jar is 100% colonized not to birth it for another week to get better mycelium growth. I was just wondering what you experianced growers do. Should I wait a week or birth it as soon as the bottom of the jar is covered in mycelium any info whould be greatly appreciated :rasta:

There are a couple schools of thought when it comes
to birthing, you either let them pin invitro which a lot
of people swear by to get better pinsets or you wait a
couple days to a week. I prefer more along the lines of a
week. I have had success both ways, invitro pinning and
birthing a week after colonization... good luck!

Ive always waited a week to make sure the center of the cake was fully colonized because I always dunk after birthing if I fruit the cake and not use it for spawn..

Might do to wait a few days up to a week, not just for the pre-pinning school of thought, but also because the cake is a mass that might show 100% colonized on the outside, but might need a little longer for the inside of the cake mass to finish up and be 100% colonized also.

The more time they spend in the jar - the less time you have to spend misting n' ventilating in the FC....

That's what I thought. I think I am going to dunk before first flush just to make sure it is fully saturated and hopefully yield some biguns.

Next time, when you innoculate those pints. I would recommend ensuring that spore solution/LC/Slurry has traveled to the bottom of the jars. In comparison it takes a while to get the bottom of the pints colonized when the myc is growing down. Your jars look very healthy by the way. Im gonna have to agree with pinning invitro before birth, you are giving the cake less of a chance to dry out before finishing fruiting.
