First shrooms were picked off a hongus cake a few days back. There were so many primordia and small shrooms that only the big ones were picked in hopes that all the primordia and smaller ones would mature. casing was misted. No dunk at the time. well it appears these baby shrooms have pretty much stopped growing. Now as from, the pics you can see there are only a few over an inch tall. most everything else is WELL under 1/4-1/2" tall (primordia) and my foaf assumes they have slowed growth due to dryness. is that correct?

he wonders if he can dunk this cake for 12 hours now without scraping off all this primordia? will they live and grow after the dunk?he hates to scrape that much potential off. please help with any advice. thanks

You can flood it while the pins are present.
I just wouldn't get any excess water on the shrooms themselves and you'll have to have a plan on how you are going to drain it thoroughly with out disturbing the mushrooms. :)

We have successfully dunked with no damage to pins. Dunk no more than an hour with pins present.

If you aren't comfortable dunking, then use a syringe to bring moisture level up if you can determine if moisture is the problem. Sometimes, they just want to grow slow also. How are your temps?

Seems like it's never too late to dunk.

The problem I see is the casing material gets waterlogged after dunking so it'll stick ontop of the substrate but in a matted wet slurry

Not sure what to do about that. dunking is such a pain in the ass

damn I am glad I checked this post before I started a 12 hour dunk. now I don't know what would be best. flood it (which I am unclear on) or dunk (but possibly damage the shrooms, or inject water (which I am unclear on) Temps are 78 degrees and humidity is still at 95%. How many cc water should be injected? Should the water be boiled first or what? or would the flooding or dunking be better in your opinion? thanks so much

No don't inject water into the casing just use the syringe to navigate around the pins to moisten the casing. Flooding it would be best ( fill the container with water) draining it might be the hard part. You are using small bread tins yes? You could fill it with water and to drain poke a small hole in one of the corners and tilt at an angle and let gravity drain the water out or with clean hands use one hand to hold the casing in and tilt to drain, minding not to touch or damage the pins.
