freezing pasteurized doo for later use
Posted 17 March 2008 - 08:09 PM
using the very first print ever traded here at mycotopia
thanks i_am_me
these spores were getting old and my friend has
never worked with EQ yet.
the only problem is that the furnace broke and was
off for a few weeks, leaving temps far too cold for cubies.
many other projects were lost :(
a heated FC was designed to keep temps in the mid 70's.
it is basically FC-in-tub
a short bin with a submersible fish tank heater on bottom
and a perlite FC up top.
also this is a total neglected chamber
meant for someone who is never home.
there are 6 quarter sized tyvek breathers
and an optional battery powered fan (which was not used yet)
This time No Fanning at all
and no casing either.
the sub was Donkey Doo and Straw mix from mycrotopia.
it had actually been in the freezer for several months.
it was left to thaw overnight
and then loaded into 4 quart jars and PC'd for 1 hour
4 1/2 pt. cakes were spawned to 1 gallon of D-DOO/Straw mix
and left to recover for 4 days
birthed to chamber
the EQ loves the Donkey doo and straw :amazed:
even rhizos climbing up the plastic walls
after 6 days there were pinners
then a few more days and the ecuador spore stock is replenished :)
flush one harvest
Ecuador strain seems to be a medium sized cubensis
as this was the largest shroom from the first flush
a small chunk from a contaminated jar fruiting invitro
a stray EQ cake
not the most amazing flush
and an un-even pinset,
but very happy that:
• the cold room temps were defeated
• more EQ spores to work with
• finally got to try the Donkey doo / straw mix from Mycrotopia
these small mushrooms were not picked yet
not sure if they are aborts or flush 2 coming up
anyways going to flood this sub and see what happens for flush two :eusa_pray
Thanks for reading

told folks it could be frozen for storage,
nice to see proof.

i'll be sure to post some more flushes
still have a little more donkey doo / straw in the freezer.
it thawed out nicely,
going to have to pick up some more

after thawing out
these jars were PC'd which probably sterilized them,
which is not normally desired.
however it has worked well in several grows so far
so gave the PC another try
either way -good luck with your frozen mix ;)

This is a great thread! I like the fact it is thawable, if that's even a word?

if frozen soon after pasteurization
no microbial growth should occur-
should be able to use as soon as thawed.

even though i froze this batch after it sat out for about 5 days,
decided to put it to the test anyways.
the remaining frozen donkeydoo straw mix
was thawed out and spawned with no pasteurization.
the stray cake was spawned directly to the thawed mix
sure enough it seems to be growing fast and healthy :amazed:

print to small scale bulk ;)
this bulk substrate mix has real potential :amazed:
there would be some serious eye candy if a clone or perfect casing were applied
another flush began
but forgot to dunk :eusa_doh:
so cropped them early
and submerged the brick of EQ
there is a drain port and rubber stopper on the base of the tub
after a dunk - flush 2? fruited with breathing lid, outside of heated FC
this flush seems better after the dunk.
i think this chamber loses rh fast when there is a shallow sub
(this sub is one gallon which is 1" deep in this tub)
hoping for a nice third flush..
i think the bottoms might have some fruiting power too
might flip the sub over or suspend it on a dishrack in the FC
any ideas welcome

is now pinning :amazed:
so here is the proof it can be used straight from the freezer
this batch was even in room temps for about 5 days before freezing
although that long was probably risking it
as far as the sub in the heated FC
it's headed towards a fourth flush
and is finally putting out larger fruits
gonna unplug the heat now thats it's warm :eusa_danc
and dunk again to try for some more fruiting action

EQ's are pretty shrooms.
  for pins

Hippie....Maybe any special coming up on your doo/straw mix?
Posted 03 April 2008 - 10:51 PM
was very careful and removed the
donkey-doo/straw colonized block from its tub
and propped it up on a dishrack
after these caps open
gonna dunk and go for one more flush
hoping to see fruiting from all sides :eusa_pray

the biggest one from flush four
definitely going to order more Donkey-doo and straw :bow:
