Yes I do plan on caseing them when they are finished colonizing. I think I went a little overboard with my spawn but oh well. I didnt count my handfulls of poo, so when I started mixing in my crumbled cakes I just kept adding more till I thought it looked right to me. 5 cakes per pie, with a thin layer on top. Im leaving town for 3 days so hopefully when I get back they will be close to being done.

They still got a bit to go, the pics just make it look more colonized cause there is a thin layer of the crumbled cakes on the surface to help it along and protect against contams.

Whats up guys..........Hope everybody had a good holiday weekend......Got home today and my pies are totally colonized so I placed them in the FC....They pulled away from the side of the pie tin, so I could get a good look and see that they were a solid hillbilly myc pie:thumbup: .....I plan on doing a late caseing with a 1/2 inch peat/verm layer........Anything I should know or comments?

the old pie tin tek works well
but might absorb unwanted metals
so pyrex / glass is better, imo.

Keep very humid till cased then drop to 85%
If you have a bit of hydrated lime to nutralize the peat's acidity - would be good..
Will still work without though, it just helps reduce mold spore germination..

Looking Good...

For unseen circumstances I had to move my shotgun FC with 4 inches of perlite outside for the nest few days. I think all the holes will provide adequate FAE plus I'll be checkin on them twice a day. Was still holding at %100 humidity after 3 hours outside, plus I live in Texas where its usually humid all the time. They are i the shade with just ambient light coming thru the holes.

What do ya;ll think?

What's the out side temp. I don't know what the kill temp is for HB but that might be a concern? Can you put them in a cooler or something to help maintain the temp during the day?

the hotter they get
the more fae they'll need
extra water too
everything moves faster at higher temps
including contams
so increase airflow.

Well it hard to get them more airflow cause they are outside. But the FC has 100's of holes drilled into it. I would assume the natural breeze would give them plenty of FAE?
