it is a sclerotia "core". I passed a needle through the stone and injected it into sterile water. A few days later that growth was visible. The jar was shook and there are many strands. I could suck some up and inject into another jar. Hopefully it will survive long term storage like this.
thats really sclerotia in the water or just myc?

One month later, I noticed that this strain likes to make one or two stones, as big as my entire thumb each, in the verm layer of a 250 ml wide mouth jar.
The problem is that as the stones push through the verm, the protection from contams is diminished... a few of the jars got some grey cobweb-like infestation.
But this also means that stones follow the path of least resistance and prefer to grow in loose verm than in compact myc and push against the glass.
I've also noticed that stones in my rye and rice jars seem to have to do a lot of pushing against the substrate in order to grow
Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the substrate "fluffier" while keeping it edible? I think this would increase yield
