I made P. tampanensis sclerotia once with a mix of rye grass seed and wheat (grain). I used no vermiculite, and after 3 months just dumped out the 'philosopher's stones," dried the surface moisture off, then put them in bags in the fridge. Tasted kinda lime/citrus-like. Yum.
I rinsed the seed thoroughly with hot water, cooked the grass seed and wheat in different pots (boiled 1hr), then rinsed both again (makes a much cleaner substrate; gluten from wheat is washed away so long as there aren't very many exploded grains- grain quality is key for sclerotia). I mixed the two 50/50, added more hydrated lime than I thought they should have (I was being tutored at the time), PC'd and inoculated in narrow-mouth pints filled halfway topped with plastic lids and filter disks. I intend to try it again some day; I'll post it as an actual 'tek' if I do...
It's amazing that sclerotia aren't more popular as there is no casing, humidity, or air exchange issues to worry about and the yield is very high compared to amount of substrate used. Plus, they just look like jars of something nasty that had been forgotten about. Post-harvest they could pass for some odd kind of snack food if packaged properly (I used packaging from snacks bought at the local Oriental Food market which were entirely in Chinese).
Almost forgot: My jars incubated in the closet in their original boxes. I was taught that darkness is VERY important. TOTAL darkness, otherwise yields are lower. Check growth with red light.
Sclerotia Rocks!

For this thread, I harvested two quart jars of popcorn and one quart of grass seed (second flush). The 77 grams I harvested dried down to 42 grams.
After the jars were harvested, I spawned the remaining colonized grain to a
straw/castings/coir/verm bulk sub that was PCed.
I'm going to try to fruit it.
Below the pics are the yeild on a scale, the blue tray is the mexi a, the yellow tray is some PRs I spawned to the same sub.
When the grass seed jar was opened for harvest, I thought the remaining seed would be tossed. It was still quite moist, so I put it back in the jar and stuck it in a cupboard and promptly forgot about it. All with bare hands, no measures taken for cleanliness.
Much to my surprise, I got a second flush. Not as many or as large as the first flush, but who knew you could get a second flush? :greenboun
