No pain, no gain. :)

Hehehe a little puking can't be any more overwhelming than having your mentality shattered and rebuilt over the course of a few hours.

hey, thanks for popping in!
no need for apologies.
actually, this is an opportune moment for me to give a little update.
well, i finished the 3rd and final brewing last night, at midnight
(makes mental note to start all future brews in the morning!Posted Image)
and have started reducing the approx. 4000ml worth of brew i'm left with.
this is going to take a while,
especially since i'm away now until sunday,
but i'm in no rush.
i've decided against filtering the final mix with the vacuum pump
since the face mask/cheesecloth combo does a more than adequate job,
allowing through only minimal sediment.
oh, and just a side note:
i was pleasantly suprised by the smell of the vine whilst it was brewing.
earthy yet fragrant,
particularly during the 1st stage.

i hate drinking nasty
tasting drinks and i hate puking.

doubt anyone much cares for either.
look at it
as a ritual of passage,
a door thru which one goes
to become fully human.

I have heard that its possible not good to filter after your final reduction. Is this true?

After the first time around the purge is not that bad. One just learns to let go and thats it. I hate puking when I am sick also, but with the vine, I do not feel I have had the full experiance unless I do have the purge. I think this fear of "puking" is a cultural thing.

Ayahuasca is not nasty tasting once one learns to brew. Its about as bitter as a strong cup of tea.

I wouldn't recommend filtering after your reduction phase . It's already been filtered 3 times ( at least that's what I do.....3 extractions for 3 hours each (all filtered with permanent coffee filter) , then the final reduction to a total minimum of 100 ml ) .

thanx, redmonk.
no filtering done.

so, it's taken 65 hrs. to reduce the 4000-odd ml of brew to this,
150ml of yage.
i'll pop it in the fridge
and imbibe when the time is right.

well, i feel like it's almost time to bring this lil ol' thread to a close
with a few details of my experience.
i drank 1/2 of the 150ml of yage last night at 10pm,
being the equivalent of 35g caapi/35g viridis.
i took about a minute to drink it, with several small mouthfuls.
the taste was bearable.
i waited 1 1/2 hrs. for effects and when none were forthcoming
i was left with the option of drinking the rest
or eating a slice of bread w/ 10ml olive oil, as per phalanx.
i opted for the latter and even before i had chewed-up the last of it
i could feel the viridis kicking-in.
from there it took all of 1 minute for visuals to begin,
very similar to psilocybin,
which quickly accelerated to a full blown trip.
(that bread/olive oil combo is one neat trick!)
now, i've read that 35g caapi/viridis is supposed to be a gentle introduction to the vine,
well, all i can say is, thank goodness i'm familiar with the territory
'cause at the peak (about 1/2 hr. in) i was pretty much prone and had to surrender myself to the forces at play.
i tried to maintain my composure by sitting upright,
at which point i felt like i made contact from a smartly-dressed, spanish-speaking doctor,
who was able to converse with me in english.
he was located above my head
in what seemed like the next dimension,
the spirit world, for want of a better description.
there were others there with him, helpers, who i could not bring into focus,
and the gist of what he had to say was that my body was not yet strong enough to hold open the link
and that i would just have to accept the medicine,
which he administered to me.
i could see a boundary between us, which appeared to be composed of some sort of liquid
and the link was then broken, as i returned into my head.
i can't go into too much detail about the rest of the trip
as a lot of it is difficult to place in any sort of chronological order and is beyond description anyway.
however, what i can say is that the yage appeared to dissolve the boundaries of my body
and i was cast far and wide into the infinite.
as i began my return back, i felt like an ethereal net,
capturing energies with tentacles of consciousness,
until i gradually regained my familiar form.
mental functioning was then experienced at a higher level
around issues from my daily life which currently preoccupy me
and from which many insights and ideas sprang.
as the vine has faded in effect, so i have been left with the memories of these.
interestingly, i experienced no purge
and i wonder if this is due to my strict everyday diet, which is wholefood-based and low in artificial ingredients.
however, i have had a real headache for much of today
despite being on a tyramine-free diet.
i guess there has to be some kind of price to pay for accessing these realms.

btw, hip.
is there any way the thread can be repaired,
for example reloading the images which were lost
and tidying up the rogue script.
i still have the images on file, if that's any help.

Cool, sounds like you got the proper aya vibe.

Puking isn't inevitable. A healthy diet seems to help. Headache could be due to dehydration or trip-related stress.

glad to hear it!

Headache could be due to dehydration

it could be that.
i hadn't drunk any water until after sunrise
so i'll try to eliminate that variable on my next journey.

btw, phalanx,
your avatar makes me smile =)
it reminds me of the feeling i had whilst returning to earth,
experiencing a multi-tendrilled consciousness emanating from me
reaching out into space.
i read something years ago about the hair being an organic antenna
being able to pick-up on the subtle vibrations of the cosmos.
my own hair is long, so perhaps this is what was happening
and why the hippies love their long hair!

so, does this theme or similar recur with aya visions?
of the whole trip, it was the weirdest part
occurring near the peak and when i felt the most vine-blown.
the contact seemed very real, completely unexpected.
i'm wondering whether it was influenced by my own cultural background
and hence simply a lucid, aya-induced, waking dream,
or if it really was a supernatural visitation by an external force.

I've heard you're not supposed to hydrate for several hours before and during the journey.

ok, so say i imbibed at 10pm,
what would be the earliest i could safely have my first thirst-quencher?
